This museum has a great number of artifacts that include a little of everything. Pictures of Richard Wright from different points in his life were a highlight. But as others here have said, the museum doesn’t go far enough to explain the significance of what...More

Have been here many times but learn something new each time. It shows another side to Natchez than is obvious to the first time tourist and that there is a deep and strong culture of African Americans. While I understand James G comments below, I...More

This place is good and has lots of information but is poorly curated. This means it is hard to pull a clear narrative from all the objects. This is a shame because there is some really interesting material but it just doesn't deliver on the punch...More

This museum is small, but it packs in a lot of information. There is an amazing guide who did a talk while we were there about Natchez history that was so interesting. My mother was from Natchez, and I felt I was learning more about...More

Nowhere is the story of the history of the African American more real than at this amazing tribute to the lives of those gone before. Composed of donated and purchase artifacts with newspaper articles, the walls speak volumes of the condition of life under the...More

The mansions of Natchez are breathtaking but there is little or no mention of the contributions, whether coerced or voluntary, of the African-American community. This museum provides a balance to the story that should make it a mandatory stop on your tour. The enthusiasm of...More

The curator walked right up to us and engaged us in a dialog about the subject matter (history) of the museum. He was a veritable encyclopedia, and drew the connections between things like the invention of the cotton gin and the growth of the slave...More

At first glance, the Museum appears overflowing with materials - but we were quickly drawn in and welcomed by director Darrell White and the place came to life. A 10-minute video invites one into the history of African Americans from the time of slavery up...More
