We visited here on a cold and windy day but still enjoyed our visit. It would have been better had there been a cafe there or somewhere to enjoy a warm drink.

Definitely take an audio tour with you when you do the short (30 minute) trek around the fort. No additional charge for them. And bring earphones with you! They do give you some for free but if you're like me and have a dozen already,...More

Newfoundland has spent a lot of money, marketing the province to us westerners. It's surprising therefore, to find all their Provincial sites to be closed by Labour Day.
