No doubt the current team who work here will say the trees had metal staples, nails and other items banged into them to facilitate attachment of a label to specify the name were all damaged and completed before they were employed here. I doubt and am not sure about this but almost every tree had some damage and this is... More

This garden is 9 miles outside Cienfuegos and at 232 acres it is huge. However, we felt it lacked any signposts (and no map was available either) so you needed a guide to get anything from this visit. We did explore one of the paths which led you through palms and banyan trees but was so overgrown / unkempt we... More

Arrived here on a bus provided by my cruise ship. We were there the day Castro's ashes were to drive into town. This meant that everything else was closed. The stroll through the garden of trees was pleasant but warm (very little shade). There were no flowers on any of the trees and I did not see any birds -... More

The botanical gardens are about a 15 km drive out of Cienfuegos. They began as a private enterprise by a sugar cane magnate who filled 4 ha with tropical plants. Over the years, the gardens expanded and today boast 94 ha. The gardens were nationalized in 1961. Getting there isn't a problem. Taxis are plentiful and cheap - you will... More

We were fortunate to have a marvelous guide named Hilda who was amazingly knowledgeable. We chatted at length about individual trees, so you have to enjoy this sort of thing, but I believe she would make anything interesting. Definitely hire a guide.

It's wild and not like any other botanical gardens I've seen but it only adds a flavour. Outstanding selection of palms. definitely worth spending couple of hours.

We combined it with a trip to Laguna Guanaroca - do this first for a better chance of seeing the flamingos. More cost effective to combine the trips if you take a taxi. A lovely, quiet, isolated place to stroll for an hour or two. If you don't take a guide, make sure you know the way back to the... More

We enjoyed our walking tour of this garden. Guide was easy to understand and very informed. They also have a gift shop and small eating area.

Our tour bus dropped us off at one end of a gravel road and collected us at the other end. Our tour guide described many rare and common trees we passed along the walk, some which had been collected from around the world and planted in the 1800's, long before the current regime. We weren't shown any greenhouse.
