Never ending strip of golden sand...!! Well, OK it maybe only 55 miles but that's still a hell of a lot of sand in one place. Even for non-beach lovers it is an impressive feature of the Far North and a must-see when visiting this remote corner of New Zealand.

The size of this beach, the power of the tides and the strength of the winds makes this a breathtaking place. Plenty of opportunities of healthy walks or if you want a ride along it, take one of the tourist buses. Rental cars are banned from the beach - lots of warning signs regarding the speed of incoming tides etc... More

I dipped into 90 mile beach at various points between Ahipara and Cape Reinga. It is a must see if you are in the far north of New Zealand. It is great for sunsets, but lacks birdlife, compared to other far north beaches, which I guess may be due to the large volume of vehicular traffic which uses it. In... More

Harrisons Cape Runner took us in a 4X4 semi truck along the 90 mile beach. Good stops along the way for pictures, dune surfing, lunch at an amazing beach and then time at Cape Reinga as well as an ice cream stop on the way back. Good value and fun for $50 each.

We stopped of on a cool and rainy spring day, so visibility was poor. However, once away from the track, the beach goes on forever. Ducking traffic would be a novelty and a tour bus drove right down to the waters edge. Worth the slight detour.

Take the bus trip and be informed and entertained by the Kiwi hosts. Its not everywhere you can say you were on a National Highway that runs along a beach. You will also learn a lot about how to pronounce Maori names. Its not Cow - ry for example! :-)

Although I only had time to walk along the southern end of the beach at sunset I found it very peaceful & serene. There were lots of shells which were interesting to look at & the sunset made it very pretty. I would definitely do a bus trip along the beach next time to experience the variety the length of beach... More

We had great weather at the end of October and wandered and paddled our feet at the beach. The water was surprisingly warm. Occasional lovely clam and mussel shells and great to have it almost to ourselves. Beautiful coast. All free! But don't look too hard for a coffee shop at the little town Ahipara as we struggled to find... More

What a fabulous experience, the beach was all ours we only saw a couple of people walking and 2 cars for the entire length of the beach. Ensure you do you research and check out the tides so you do not get yourself into trouble. Driving on the beach is not something everyone should do you need to know what... More
