Had high expectations for Goat Island and to be fair it was a stunning place. Think I overestimated the sea-life we would see, which made it slightly disappointing. However, there is a fantastic walk up to the top of the cliffs which give great views of the island and surrounding area. We then went kayaking which was really good fun... More

It was fascinating seeing how large and varied the marine life was. Recommend to bring flippers, as some of the currents in the deeper water can be a little strong. A perfect way to spend a morning or an afternoon.

Haven't been here for a number of years - wow - huge numbers of people here now! Still a great place to explore with kids - they went for a swim and rapidly returned for cameras when they realised the abundance of fish! We also went to the discovery centre - well worth a look

What a beautiful find. We had 2 families with 3 teens and 2 under 10s. Great options of snorkeling, glass bottom boat, swimming or kayaking. We hired wet suits and snorkeling equipment and one kayak and everyone had a ball. Water is very clear and calm so you see heaps of fish and even stingrays. Highly recommend this as a... More

Crystal clear waters make seeing the fish in their habitat super easy. Bring towels and swimwear, a book and picnic. It's a bit of a walk on paved paths down to the beach. Parking is up the hill a bit. Just be ready to carry whatever you'll need. Sunscreen needed, though there are shady positions too!

Was worried about low tide, shouldn't have worried, saw lots of fish, the water was very clear, amazing visibility. Get there early in peak season, but it wasn't Too crowded even today on January 7, in the morning.

The first Marine Reserve in New Zealand and one of most accessible to Auckland. Fish are now abundant and unafraid of people so you can swim close to them. Area is only few meters deep so snorkelling and swimming is sufficient (scuba not essential). You can hire snorkel gear locally. In summer no need for wetsuits as 20oC or more.... More

The coastal track is absolutely gorgeous. If you come get there early as it's full of tourists by about 11am.
