This is a great place to visit with family and friends and it is FREE. The fish are amazing and it is right off the rocks! Worth while getting a wetsuit and getting in and seeing the underwater world. We will be back with our family from overseas at Christmas time.

My partner and I went snorkeling here in late April and although the weather was cooler and the visibility wasn't great, we still really enjoyed our experience. We saw many fish including red moki, blue maomao, snappers and leather jackets. On the swim back we also managed to see an eagle ray swimming for awhile which was quite neat. I'd... More

One of my favourite daytrips out of the city of Auckland was a visit to Goat Island! It offers plenty of fine attractions to keep you entertained for the day, and if the weather plays along, then you can have a great day out. The Goat Island Marine Reserve offers good grass areas, an excellent golden beach and if you're... More

The curator of this place was great! She had so much wonderful knowledge of the marine life and the research being conducted by the students next door. She was very happy to share what she knew with you and spent loads of time doing it. It was a great place to visit and the walk around the trail had some... More

This would be the easiest accessible marine reserve in NZ and is a great place to take children or novice divers to introduce to some wonderful marine life in a safe environment.

Want to feed the local fish by hand? Go for a swim or snorkel in the deep blue sea? This place is an awesome place to do that! Its a sheltered beach & can get really hot, so bring the sunscreen. Great for short walks along the beach, safe for swimming & picnics too. My fave thing was to snorkel... More

I was here 2 times with high and low water, low water was better because you where closer to the bottom I saw 12 different speces , like ray, cat fish, trevelly etc. the water can be cold but you can rent wetshouts.

It really is a must see! After being in existence for 50 years the level of marine life is now so much closer to what it must have been like before humans started decimating the fish life around NZ's coast. We are becoming more conscious of what we must do to preserve our biodiversity in the marine world, well the... More
