On an adventurous road to a beautiful beach

The gravel road to Gillespies Beach is really adventurous. Lots of sharp curves, narrow road, lot of loose gravel. BE CAREFUL ! The sign on the start of the road says it, and I... read more

Trust me you do not think you are going to see the beach till you get there, you drive from Glaciers, snow capped mountains through rain forest and hallelujah there is the beach, not many countries in the world can offer three different landscapes within 25km This is remote and about 25K's from Fox Glacier township, half of the road... The gravel road to Gillespies Beach is really adventurous. Lots of sharp curves, narrow road, lot of loose gravel. BE CAREFUL ! The sign on the start of the road says it, and I give the advise to drive slowly. Short before you arrive at the parking lot - after crossing the bridge - watch out for sheep in the... More

Despite the bad weather we made a trip to this bay. The walk through the wide bay with the many driftwoods was breathtakingly beautiful.

The coastline and weather is constantly changing so it depends on the conditions you are looking for. Have been here twice. First time it was raining and seas were wild, the last time it was a bright sunny day and relatively calm but definitely would not go swimming here.

It is a nice beach to let your hair down and look for some nice pebbles. There is also a free DOC campsite nearby which makes it a great place to spend the day and have a campfire afterwards.

We loved this freedoms campsite. Situated right behind the dunes of the beach! Although was a rainy day and missed out on the mountains in the backdrop the beach was very beautiful to walk along! Due to the drizzly weather we must have missed out on the sandfly as well! The sunset was amazing! Wish I had more time to... More

But it was an Ok form of exercise. From the track there is very little view of the sea and with sheep it kinda makes it a smelly experience. I wouldnt bother going back

This beach has the most stunning backdrop you can imagine. Where else can you wonder along driftwood and black sand looking at the two highest peaks of the country. Best time to visit is sunset.

Similar natural and man made attributes attract same enthusiastic usage and regrettably similar insensitive abuse by environmentally insensitive visitors

At the end of a winding unsealed road from Fox Glacier to the sea. This is a DOC (Department of Conservation) campsite, rather basic: a parking with vault toilets. The location is just great: right behind the dunes and beach. At night, there’s the sound of the waves and a starry, starry sky. The place fills up at night, better... More
