CLOSED FOR RENOVATION. So disappointed. We were here on our last time through Salt Lake City about 2 years ago. This museum is a real gem that we were looking forward to revisiting.

We're so sorry you stopped by during our renovation and were disappointed. We're happy to report, however, that we've begun hosting films and artist talks in our Dumke Auditorium again and that our Museum Cafe is expected to reopen mid-October. Galleries will reopen August 26-27, 2017. We hope to see you then or soon thereafter! More

My daughter and I enjoyed going to the museum on a cold winter day. We practically had the place to ourselves and it was fantastic!

The UMFA is located on the University of Utah campus, readily accessible from downtown SLC via the TRAX red line (I used the Stadium stop but South Campus might be okay too). The museum is not huge but there is good space to accommodate touring exhibits plus the permanent collection. The latter focuses on painting but there is a small... More

Thanks so much for your detailed review—we're so glad you visited and shared your experience. The UMFA is now closed temporarily for remodeling. We'll reopen in spring 2017 with brand new exhibitions of our European, Asian, African, American, regional, and contemporary collections. P.S. It's a shorter (and downhill!) walk from the University South Campus stop. More

It's fun to go here on Free museum days (First Wednesdays and Third Saturdays). The third Saturdays also have special craft activities that you can participate in. They are aimed for families and children, but I often enjoy decorating clay plates, making a sculpture, etc as well. The museum staff is very friendly and explains the exhibits that are going... This is not a large museum but I enjoyed my visit. The building itself is quite artistic with a huge flight of stairs and a room of ribbons hanging from the ceiling. Though I am not really that into art I liked it.

Thanks so much for visiting! You're referring to the site-specific installation that New York-based artist Tony Feher created for our Great Hall—from pink landscaping tape!—titled "They arrived yesterday, dusty and weary from the journey, but in good spirits." We're looking forward to presenting another site-specific contemporary artwork in that space when we reopen in 2017, once our remodeling and reinstallation... More

The whole arrangement was well done and spent an enjoyable afternoon there. The cafeteria there is also very pleasant so make a day of it and eat there. The physical facility is new and... More
