We eagerly seek out art museums during our travels. We were quite disappointed with this small museum, housed in an architecturally uninspired building. The current exhibitions are lackluster at best. Too bad, as Salt Lake City could use some culture!

While the MOCA has just four galleries, we found the quality of the art to be above average for such a small museum. Staff were friendly and offered good suggestions for the nearby neighborhood. The art itself ranged from local art to international pieces – budget...More

The museum is large, but the exhibits are small and reminiscent of freshman art class. Two of the twenty exhibits made me pause in satisfaction, but most were too focused on trying to be "edgy" or make a political statement than capture any appreciation of...More

This museum is immediately adjacent to the Salt Palace and has a medium-sized amphitheater with nice seating and good AV capabilities. It's great for a presentation to an audience drawn from a convention being held in the Salt Palace next door. You also get to...More

I love contemporary art and I think it should be for all people of all ages, but you also have to act appropriately for the environment. My time here was ruined by some sort of children's party where the parents and staff allowed the kids...More

I have to say that UMOCA isn't what I was expecting for Utah. Much more progressive and I appreciated the timeliness of their exhibition of Brazilian video art given all of the publicity associated with the Olympics.

Hubby and I stopped in because: 1. it was free and 2. We had time to kill The museum is non-profit so we paid $5 to get in. The art/videos/signs were interesting and strange. I liked seeing what the artists interpreted as art and how...More

Small museum with some interesting temporary exhibitions, though some of them a bit too abstract for us. Non-profit, free entrance, optional donation 5 dollars suggested. We loved the unisex bathrooms. The museum was a good contrast to the conservative mormon temple square that's right across...More

OK, so we visited SLC a few days ago, and stopped off to see the Contemporary Art Museum. Yup, contemporary says it. So does weird. So does underwhelming. We hit all available gallery and hallway exhibits, and left lamenting that that was 11 minutes of...More

The Utah Museum of Contemporary Art was a major disappointment. The exterior of the building is attractive raising one's expectations for the viewing of interesting and imaginative art. What was on display was very disappointing. The museum apparently has no permanent collection and the temporary...More
