We went to see flowers & walk. This was a very nice place to relax & see flowers & birds. We were disappointed that the butterfly display was closed for season thing it would be indoors one however was really pleased with bird collection & show. The bird show was really laid back & personal so was the highlight of... More

Lovely gardens and nature center in the midst of road construction - don't let that deter you from seeking this out for some quiet respite. There are very good trails for meandering or walking at a faster pace. I thoroughly enjoyed the orchid house - so many varieties to drool over! Several bird species on site behind cages which are... What a nice way to spend an afternoon. We fed quite a few of their caged parrots and other birds, fed goldfish in the pond, took a quiet walk on their nature trail and just communed with nature. The staff here was extremely friendly and attentive. The loved showing off their birds and other reptiles here. The gardens are neat and... More

Given that these gardens are run by a nonprofit organization on limited funds, they are wonderful. Of course more money is needed for new posters, better signs, and the like. But, the entire place is pretty and peaceful even in December. I enjoyed my stay there and found it interesting. I especially liked the rock furniture and seeing the turtles... More

I was surprised by the size of the gardens. Such a lovely walk. They had a collection of snakes/lizzards and parrots, and an amazing collection of orchids, most of which I hadn't seen before. I would like to visit again in the Spring when the plants are in bud/bloom and the lake is fuller and probably full of birds and... More

Great for families or anyone. It is "Nature" so be prepared for the weather, but that also means it can be different anytime you go. Plenty to do or just a great place to take a stroll.

Being from the north country we like to travel off season to the beach country so we won't melt. Looking for something to do on a cloudy, maybe rainy, day and happened on this little gem. Very reasonably priced and the staff were extremely helpful, educational, and friendly. Many rescue birds and reptiles. Even had a macaw eating a peanut... More

A lot of flowering plants and native plants to the area. Good presentation and walk ways are easy to walk.

The Botanical Gardens are breathtaking and beautifully laid out for enjoyment of so many different plants, a parrot show, green houses of orchids, plumerias, and many other beautiful plants. It is not only educational to see the many varieties, but relaxing and entertaining! I always love going there to see the beauty and enjoy going through the gift shop to... More

When you look at the South Texas Botanical Gardens and Nature Trail from the outside, it doesn't look like much. Inside it offers more than you'd expect. Yes, there are plenty of plants, but few botanical gardens offer animals. We were greeted by a sulfur crested cockatoo, one of the 40+ parrots on location. There are also reptiles, tortoises, hummingbirds... More
