We visited the Gladys Porter Zoo while staying in South Padre. We are from Houston and have been to the Houston zoo countless times, but it's so large that's it's hard to get through the whole thing. We really enjoyed this zoo. It's smaller and we liked the cool architecture everywhere. The kids really enjoyed the giant play area!

We to the zoo with 19 other people and we did the VIP tour. It started at 9:00 in the morning and we were treated with cookies, donuts, coffee and orange juice before the tour started. The tour consisted of a behind the seen tour of the zoo. The inner workings. They also took us into the kangaroo cage to... More

I think the zoo has declined some since my first visit about 10 or 15 years ago. The beautiful wild, tall poinsettias at the entrance have been made into a parking lot. There seem to be more concession stands around the park and there are now 2 gift shops. A very small aquarium has been added and there was construction... More

Great little zoo with lots of animals. We were disappointed that several exhibits were closed. But all in all it was a gem of a zoo. Food and drink kiosks scattered throughout. There is even a nice playground stop for the kids. Lots of places to shelter out of the sun or rain. Well worth a visit.

We took our son to the zoo as it was within walking distance of our families home. The zoo is bigger than I expected but seems to be in desperate need of improvement. Its not that expensive and a good break in the day to take your children or get out and walk around.

I am not a big fan of Zoos but this one is nicely arranged and with the hot climate the exotic animals seem to be happy.

Sometimes Texans can be a little over enthusiastic in their praise of Texas attractions. In the case of the Gladys Porter Zoo in Brownsville, the praise is well deserved. The place is clean -- period. The animals all looked healthy and alert from the big cats and apes to the smallest exhibits. Indoor exhibits are spread around the grounds which... More

We live in Harlingen and find ourselves going to zoo at least once a year since we moved here. I've been to a lot of zoos all over United States and this one is one of the best I've been to. The unique animals and exhibits make it fun for everyone! We have teenage kids and they enjoy it just... More

They finally added an aquarium and although the zoo seems outdated in some areas, this zoo is always a pleasure to visit.
