This cemetery may be very similar to other National Civil War Cemeteries, but its history and recent renovations reveal a very unique story. I am so proud to say that our government saw fit to restore dignity to the heroes buried here. There is a...More

A very scenic and well-kept National Cemetery. The grounds were immaculate, and there was a large, new US flag flying high and proudly over the graves. The VC was closed due to the season, so it was a quick stop to take in the cost...More

This is a stop as a part of the Petersburg National Battlefield Park. It is a somber place to view graves of those who gave there lives during the Civil War.

Interesting interpretive leaflet available near gates; not always staffed; passport stamps available at battlefield visitors center. Separated from battlefield site. Now closed to...More

Stone gardens aren't considered the best places to visit, but I couldn't resist this one. A reconstruction project was underway and we intruded, but were treated very nicely by the project's managing engineer and given a short tour. We were shown the grave of my...More

We stopped here after visiting the eastern battlefield at Petersburg and didn't walk the entire grounds. I'd visit the Hollywood Cemetery before this. However, this would be a good visit to see and pay respects.

Though still in use today there is a well of history amongst the old gravestones, a time past when the events of the day were bloody and steeped in misery.
