Nice Museum

This is a nice medium size museum with a lot of local history and focused on the siege of Petersburg during the civil war. Some very nice artifacts.

The Petersburg Siege Museum tells the story of the citizens of Petersburg during the siege of Petersburg during the Civil War. You can't do the Petersburg Museum / Civil War tour without visiting the Siege Museum.

Due to financial mismanagement all museums in Petersburg are closing. This is a shame, as Petersburg could be a historical gem like Williamsburg, with the right management.

It has been several years since our visit but the uniqness of the facility in Petersburg, an old grain trading center is worth a visit. It is loaded with southern lifestyle, Confederal memorabilia, the struggle of a community held hostage in their own community and the hub for railroading throughout the south made this stop and other sites in the... this wonderful civil war museum is closed for the next 12 months for extensive interior renovation. Check back on trip advisor about this time next year.

Visit the Siege Museum before visiting Petersburg National Battlefield. You will learn the back story and the true story of the siege of Petersburg. Many historical artifacts and pictures from Petersburg and surrounding communities from that time. Interesting stories told by community members, soldiers on both sides, and slaves from that time regarding the battle.

The Petersburg Siege Museum while not being in the best part of downtown Petersburg, Virginia is in fact one of the most important places to stop for anyone with an interest in the battle of Petersburg & just how this town to the south of Richmond held out as long as it did. The introductory video is well worth watching... More

This stop is right in the heart of Olde Town with lots of parking in the blocks that surround. Fascinating aspect that most don't get a glimpse into. This is solely about how the civilians survived and how very few died as collateral damage which is a huge feat considering the city was bombarded daily by enemy fire. This museum... More
