Some of the loop was closed b/c the park was doing maintenance, but we still loved it. Pick up the trail map to help you understand the marked points on the trail. My kids got the junior ranger booklets that we did at the same...More

This trail leads from the visitor center and takes you up close with some large petrified logs. There are more intact tree trunk-like logs here compared to the Crystal Forest Loop. You will be going uphill from visitor’s center though and there are steps along...More

Our little kids were more interested in the museum, but I enjoyed the walk and especially seeing the large tree.

We went when it was a bit hot but even so it was so beautiful. The trail was easy to walk and not too long. If you go in the summer be sure to bring water!

This is a short and easy loop trail but worth doing. The logs are fantastic. You can touch and feel them. There is a box at the trailhead with guide books. They have explanations of the numbered stops on the trail. You can put the...More

Amazing petrified logs! They have color, some are huge, and there is incredible preservation of some of the trees' features. The loop is a very short walk and is well worth it. Make sure that you get a copy of the guide so that you...More

After exploring the Visitor's Center and learning more about the unique geology of the park in the museum, we walked out back and took the giant logs loop. It is short and easy to walk and is a nice introduction to the park. You can...More

Another great place to see large petrified logs. East trails and close to parking make for a great experience. A must see when in the park
