Make this your first stop & get out to stretch your legs. You will build a desire to see more. Shouldn’t take more than 30min. Dogs welcome & kids

This is a short walk with just a few stairs, and it meanders among an incredible amount of petrified wood. The walk takes about 15 minutes and can be enjoyed by almost anyone.

So much to see on such a short hike. It is totally worth the time to walk through and explore so much of the petrified wood. Not too strenuous either.

You won't see wood this wood anywhere else. It is amazing how the wood has not only broken itself into segments, the wood has turned into this amazing stone with more colors than a rainbow. I highly suggest going by this place if you are...More

We traveled north to south through Petrified Forest National Monument today. Took some of the short hikes, most of the stops were a stroll from the car. It was not too hot and what a magnificent place this is. Wish there had been lunch waiting...More

The name of this trail is precise. You will see some massive logs spread throughout the trail. The walk is very easy and overlooks onto the fields of petrified woods throughout the park. If you only do one trail, do this one. It is the...More

Some of the loop was closed b/c the park was doing maintenance, but we still loved it. Pick up the trail map to help you understand the marked points on the trail. My kids got the junior ranger booklets that we did at the same...More

This trail leads from the visitor center and takes you up close with some large petrified logs. There are more intact tree trunk-like logs here compared to the Crystal Forest Loop. You will be going uphill from visitor’s center though and there are steps along...More

Our little kids were more interested in the museum, but I enjoyed the walk and especially seeing the large tree.

We went when it was a bit hot but even so it was so beautiful. The trail was easy to walk and not too long. If you go in the summer be sure to bring water!

Agreed with the prior user - it's very short and right behind the visitor center. You should pick up the trail map - it was some fun things to look for as you walk around.
