About
Imagine over 500 colourful hot air balloons rising up at dawn over the New Mexico landscape… there's truly nothing like it. The place to experience it is each October at the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Spectators and balloon pilots from all over the world gather (some even camping in their caravans) to watch the mass ascensions held in the mornings, and night events like the 'glowdeo'. Music stages are set up during the day and performers stroll through the festival crowds, which can number 750,000 people.

Pleasantly Surprised
Oct. 2020
I was very skeptical about going to Ballon Fiesta because of the massive amount of people that attend. I was very surprised how well everything went. It is definitely a great event to see in person and I look forward to attending the event again.

Can't go too much!
Oct. 2019
This is my favorite activity/festival in the U.S. I have been twice and will return this year also. On our first visit, we bought general admission tickets, and while we loved seeing the balloons, it was very crowded. Seeing the ascent in the morning is absolutely breathtaking! And the most exciting thing is that you can walk around the whole field, which is huge, and visit with the over 500 balloon crews! Standing right there beside a crew as they prepare for take-off is the most fun! Each crew gives out little "business" cards with their balloon name, and details. There are lots of good gift shops too and food stands, but don't spend all your time there. Balloons take off at staggered times, so from sunrise on, for a couple hours, there is constantly something to see! We upgraded to Gondola Club, which is a private viewing area, and we will never go back to General Admission!

Hot Air Balloons
Oct. 2019
I had never considered going to the ABQ hot air balloon festival before until i decided to take my wife. We upgraded to the gondola club tickets which was nice. If you want to see the balloons take off you need to go for the AM session which we didnt know until we got there. Also they only take off under ideal conditions so if time allows i would plan for a couple days. We were lucky enough to see the balloons take off it was quite a site. We say teh special shapes which was entertaining. The gondola club had hot food and didnt run out of anything. They also arranged to have a cake made from an outside vendor and delivered to us during the festival. The open bar opens at 7 but you need to arrive early around 5AM to get through parking and to get a good spot.

Lots of fun. Great flying area. Very well organized for pilots and crews. Spectators love every flight window.

Red Flagged Opening Day. :(
Oct. 2019
This was my 2nd time attending the Hot Air Balloon Fiesta and the 2nd time the balloons didn't go up! It really was disappointing, but I understand it happens. I had only scheduled us to go for one day, I think this time I have learned my lesson, need to schedule 2 days to attend. We still have a lot of fun and the glow was as spectacular as I remember 8 years ago. We'll be back again, but this time it won't be 8 years from now! Another thing I will remember next time is since we are there so early in the morning and it's still dark, bring a flash light and some papertowels to wipe off the picnic tables!

This event exceeded expectations.

It is not often that an event lives up to expectations. This Balloon Fiesta certainly exceeded our expectations. The beauty of viewing hundeds of hot air balloons in a perfectly blue sky cannot be adequately described and must be experienced to be appreciated!

New Mexico fun
Oct. 2019 • Couples
We went on a short trip to New Mexico last October mainly to see the International Balloons Festival in Albuquerque. We took our Aussie poo Ryder and we had a fantastic time! We left Belton and headed to New Mexico and stopped at a casino and horse track on the border then the next day headed to Roswell to the UFO Mueseum which was a hoot. After souvenir shopping we headed to the Cattle Baron and had the best prime rib. Then it was on to stay at the Navito in Albuquerque and the International Balloon Festival which was amazing and the next day rode the Sandia Tram which had amazing views of the city. Near there was an amazing dog park that Ryder really enjoyed. We spent a day in Santa Fe and went to St Micheals and the ch Loretta chapel and had fun shopping in old town. Then we drove to Chalma and took the stem engine to Antonito Co and bussed back to our rustic lodge. It was an awesome trip!

Went to Albuquerque New Mexico to experience the Balloon Fiesta this past Oct.
If you have never been, you should go at least once in your life time.
To see over 500 hot air balloons in one place is amazing. We were with a Globus Tour so we had top notch service while there. From early morning with the hot breakfast and coffee to the evening glow and fireworks it was our best trip of 2019. Historic downtown Albuquerque is very interesting also. Put this event on your bucket list!!

Bucket list trip
Oct. 2019
I've been waiting 20 years to finally make this trip. It was well worth the wait. We did 2 morning glows and 1 night glow and it was just enough. I could've gone to more but there's only so many balloons you can look at. It is beautiful to see them take off and glide across the sky with mountains in the background. You have to be there early. I think the morning glow is at 7 and you literally have to be there at 7 or you miss a big part of it. It is COLD in the morning so dress warmly! The night glow with fireworks was by far my favorite part. I highly recommend! I also recommend if possible to bike there. There are bike paths to get there and a FREE bike valet. Parking is a pretty tough. Put your patience hat on if you do drive because it takes time getting in/out of the park. Overall, I would tell anyone to go to this. A must see!
