It's a little daunting entering and exciting the water, despite the "two-step" name, but well worth the effort. We've snorkels in a number of places on the big island and Honaunau Bay is great because it's deep enough to feel like you're not going to...More

This spot spans learning about history (to the south) and having fun (to the north). It is definitely worth a visit. Look for reviews of Pu'uhonua O Honaunau National Historical Park and Pae'a (aka "Two Step") for details.

City of Refuge, or Honaunau as the natives call it is worth the effort of braving the heat as you climb down the roads from the cooler temps of Captain Cook's coffee farms down to sea level. This historic site is full of Hawaiian history...More

You can swim, snorkel, paddleboard, kayak or just hang out and listen to ocean here. The reef is incredible and there are plenty of fish around here. It's an incredible area to visit!

One of the best snorkeling spots on the island! get there early, parking can get filled up but there is lots of parking on side street if you don't mind the walk. The canoe club also offers parking right off the shore for a small...More

This place was recommended to us by a local. A short drive South of Kona and easy to find, we visited mid morning on a warm and sunny Sunday. Whilst busy we only had to wait a few minutes to use the 'two steps' to...More

The snorkeling from 2 step is the best on the island except for Capt Cook. Saw dolphins, turtles, sharks and tons of fish. Water was clear.

This is a beautiful, clear bay in the place of refuge. We didn't see any sea turtles, but we did see yellow tangs and lots of other curious fish!

Beautiful snorkeling spot with lots of BIG fish. We were able to see a couple turtles even. Its relatively easy to get in and out of the water, although you may have to park somewhat far away and walk to the beach.

I have lived 3 miles away for over 3 years and I go for a snorkel almost every day. The ocean can get angry any time of year but November is not yet winter and should be fine. I have never found the need to wear a wetsuit... More
