The art on each section of the walls of the church is very descriptive and the fact that the artists was self taught makes it even more meaningful. They have postcards available for a small donation as well. Great little stop to take in art, religion & culture.

The Painted Church is small in stature but large in terms of the story it tells of the early days the Catholic Church on the Big Island. This church is beautifully decorated inside with hand painted art depicting stories from the bible that seem to come to life as you sit inside this small church and take in the stories... More

Have driven around west Hawaii many times but have not visited the Painted Church until this week. It is a fun drive through coffee plantations, gardens and traditional plantation homes. The church is small but wonderfully painted inside with a cemetery in front. I encourage a visit and continue on down the road to the beach and go slow, since... More

Just a short drive off the main highway, but well worth it. Church is a beautiful structure sitting along the Kona coast. Interior is decorated with hand painted art. Also, church has been victimized by termites and the church could use some financial help.

I have been here every time I come to the big island. It is a pretty and unique spot. St. Benedicts church continues to have services. A little off the beaten path but worth the drive.

What a beautiful church! The interior is very unusual in that it is painted with scenes from the Bible. Quaint with scenic views. Flowers and trees very lovely. A quiet, delicate place. Enjoyed visiting so much.

We found this little church on accident who traveling to a snorkeling spot. Glad we did. I would highly recommend a stop here if you're in the area. Gorgeous back drop for a church and gorgeous paintings inside. The grounds of the church is also amazing not to mention the view from the front doors.

A very nice church with views of the ocean. It's only a short detour of the main highway. The cemetery is quite interesting as well.

Another stop on the GyPSy tour of the Big Island brought us to the Painted Church in South Kona. For those of you who are unfamiliar with GyPSy tours, they are apps that you can buy for $8-$9 or so for your smart phone. Turn them on during your visits to the Hawaiian Islands and your "guide"accurately identifies your location... More
