    Worth a visit
This was a gem. Great and accessible trails. We hiked a bit then took the tram, which was well worth it. It takes you into the canyon area where the scenery is fascinating. It comes with headphones for short bursts of information about what you’re seeing. There’s the opportunity to hop on/off at different stops. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit to this park

Gem show and sight seeing get away.
We traveled to attend the gem show. Great fun. Then visited San Xavier del Bac & toured Tucson neighborhoods. Stayed overnight at La Posada Hotel. Great dinner at Mister An’s.

    Pristine and beautiful
What a busy place! Plan ahead so you know what hikes you want to do; get there early so that you can get the trolley you want. I like the fact that they don't allow cars beyond the parking lot. There's a trolley ride up and down; it takes about 30 minutes each way, and it stops so people can hop on or off. Everyone gets headsets; ours didn't work! Anyway, it's a lovely place.

    Beautiful ride
Took the 1 hour round trip tram ride. With round trip ticket You can walk the whole way down or part way down. There are no stops going up but several going down. We rode both ways. It was beautiful and well worth price. Narration is provided. Nice visitor center and gift shop too. This was awesome. Highly recommend it.

Great, local recreation area near Tucson
Sabino Canyon is a wonderful, but very popular, natural area near Tucson. There is an entrance fee, but a National Parks Pass gets you in for free. At the base there is a giftshop, info area and restrooms. There are lots of varied hiking trails and a tram that can just provide a leisurely tour of the area or take you closer to some of the trails. The stream through the canyon can be bone dry or a raging torrent blocking the roads after a strong rain. At busy times the parking lot can be full but there is an overflow lot just up the road.

    Should be on everyone's list
We visited the canyon in the mid morning. In April, it was cool and pleasant - bring a hat and maybe a jacket. As photographers know, the light is best in the morning and evening. The same is true here. The shadows on the mountains pop in the early morning light. When we were there. the parking lot was already full. Being a federal facility, we could use our Senior Pass. There are also vending machines to get a day pass for $8. The visitor center is impressive with stone and natural materials. There is a little shop and the park staff could answer all our questions. They gave us good advice about the trails that would suit our energy level. There is also a third party shuttle service that leaves every half hour. For $15 you can board a huge covered "golf cart" that traverses the length of the canyon on a 45 minute tour. We started on one trail and then veered off to avoid groups that were ahead of us. I think all the trails must be good. On the Rattle Snake trail, we did see a snake, several birds and a wonderful array of cacti and wild flowers on a well groomed gravel trail. We had to keep going so we branched off on another trial and before we knew it we had our 10,000 steps in. We are staying in the area so will plan to return so see more of this wonderful place.

    Don’t miss it.
Wow! Take the Canyon Crawler tram. It goes to the “top” without stopping, but then you can get off for a few minutes or stay at that stop for as long as you’d like and pick up another tram to go down. You can get off at other stops along the way down. think there are nine all together. We were at the top stop for the partial eclipse—super fun. Note: There is an $8 fee to park but our National Park pass was honored.

    Water In the Desert?
Sabino Canyon Recreation Area has numerous hiking trails as well as the Sabino Canyon Crawler open air tram. The tram takes visitors 3.7 miles into the canyon and back. On the day of our visit, we were up for a ride rather than a hike, so we opted for the tram. The tram was an excellent introduction to the canyon, including an optional audio tour via headphones. The tram makes stops on the return trip giving the option to hop off and hike part or all of the way back. We stayed on for the entire ride, about an hour. We reserved our tickets online on a few days ahead to guarantee our plans. The water winding through the canyon was a departure from the arid desert scenery on our other Tucson excursions. We’re glad we included Sabino Canyon in our itinerary, and hope to return for hiking another time.

    Immersed in Arizona nature, 4/14/24
Close to Tucson and on our trip to Tombstone, we found a great scenic park. The 4 mile tram ride up the Sabino canyon over multiple water crossings was beautiful, and the weather was perfect. It would have been quite warm to do the hike in the afternoon. We saw some wonderful scenery and were narrated on the ride up. We spent an hour or so enjoying the perfect afternoon. Our National Park pass saved us the $8 parking, but not the $15 tram ride.

    Nature at its best
Good for all ages and fitness levels. Lovely any time of the year. Many hikes of different length and difficulty and a handy “crawler” shuttle for those less energetic. Tip ride the crawler up the length of the road and walk back along the road to stop 1 then ride the rest of the way. Obviously avoid hiking at peak heat times in the summer, and tailor your clothing to the weather. Bring water whenever you hike.

Wish I knew then what I know now, which is if you visit the national park at Sabino Canyon and want to take the tram tour, you had better swing by early and make sure you grab tickets for later in the day. Unfortunately, the wife and I did not get to enjoy this particular aspect of Sabino and thought we'd just come strolling in. No such luck. We also spent considerable time cruising the parking lot for a spot, and I'm here to tell you that if you need handicapped parking, you may be there a while looking for it. So....4 stars instead of 5. But why not 3? Because even so, we had a great time. Nice visitor's center and wonderful trails to walk around an sight-see. We enjoyed all the plants and wildlife and found the staff to be very friendly and helpful. This place is so close to the city, I have to forgive it for being over-booked and, instead, resolve to visit Tucson again so I can be certain I am one of the smiling visitors who has just finished the legendary tram tour.

I have heard of Sabino Canyon and always wanted to check it out so while staying at the Westin La Paloma which is about a 10 minute drive away we decided to visit. The website indicates that no cars are allowed and you either have to walk or take a open air tram ride/tour. We arrived 30 minutes in advance of the first tour departure (hourly) only to discover all tickets were already gone. So we were able to purchase tickets for the next departure in one hour. As we boarded the tram, we were handed ear buds in order to listen to the recorded tour. The tour guide was very adamant that masks must be worn at all times. On an open-air tram!? I realize it is law but it seemd ridiculous and she was almost aggressive about her reminders to keep them on. We settled in hoping to hear all about the canyon, the cactus and animals as we rode but the recorded tour was disappointing. Lots of time gaps and very superficial information. It would have been nice to hear all the interesting facts about the saguaro cactus for example but it was merely named with no further information. You are allowed to get off at any of the 9 stops and many people did so that they could hike. We gave up on the uninformative tour and did get off about halfway back and walked to our car. One tip I'd like to pass along is that you can actually purchase your tram tickets in advance online and I would definitely recommend going on one of the earlier departures. Tram tour starts at 9,

SABINO canyon is amazing... the new tram and maybe just this tour driver not so much...
I live here in Tucson and planned to take 7 family members up the tram on 12/31. We got to the recreation area and were diverted to the overflow parking because it was so busy. One of our family members was diabetic and one had walking difficulties and it was about 1PM. We made it to the area to buy tickets and were told it would be a 4PM ride and basically only up and down as it was the last tram of the day. When we bought the tickets we asked if we could be dropped off by the overflow parking on the regular route on the way down as it would be dark and we had not planned on being there that late and did not have head lamps. The ticket people said “well you can certainly ask!”
When we were ready to start the tram we asked the guide who was incredibly rude and said “NO”. So another family member said “the people who sold us our tickets said we could ask if we could be dropped off at the start of the overflow parking lot”. Again the tour guide said “I heard the question the first time and the answer is still NO!” Wow what a way to introduce people to the tram and the experience in Sabino Canyon. After he dropped us off which was the last ride of the day he went back the same way we came down and again could of have us stay on the tram and dropped us off where he was returning his tram.

We visited on a very wet day so that the bridges were all flooded. What a great way to show children the forces of nature! It was exciting to creep across each bridge and great kudos should go to the driver. In fact, when we came back, we noticed that the drivers had switched to the bus that rides a bit higher on the ground. We plan to do this again in March and to get off partway back so that we can walk down to the visitors' centre.

Let me start by saying that the actual Sabino Canyon itself was AMAZING. Incredible scenery and views and lots of great trails to pick from. We thoroughly enjoyed 90% of our day there.

However, Sabino Canyon Crawler/tram/shuttle service was an absolute joke. From the first moment we interacted with staff, we were met with rude, patronizing behavior which took us completely by surprise, considering we were asking some pretty basic questions as tourists who had never been in the area before. We ended up getting the best advice from some friendly hikers who were heading up the road.

We ended up on a variety of trails throughout the day, the longest being the Phoneline Trail (highly recommend!) which linked at the end with Sabino Canyon Trail at put us at the final shuttle stop (#9). We planned and rationed our water/food throughout the day thinking that after the 6+ miles of hiking, we'd pay the one-way shuttle fee and ride back. We waited at the stop for an hour, no shuttle. There were no other people around, so we ended up walking down the road and ran into other folks who were at shuttle stop #8, who had also been waiting for an hour.

We then learned from another couple on the road that the shuttles had "malfunctioned" and were unable to complete the loop. Considering we had planned our food/water relying on the tram coming, we were stunned. It was appalling and downright dangerous that no one from staff or park service (in a truck, ATV, walking, anything!) alerted the hikers that the trams weren't in service. We ended up walking the rest of the way back down the road (finally getting running water to refill our bottles past shuttle stop #1).

The shuttle service is a wonderful concept and something we were eager to use and enjoy. But the management and employees today were beyond disappointing. I'm honestly grateful that we didn't end up giving them any business, and just paid the entrance fee into the park.

This is a must do visit for locals and visitors alike. I live on the East Side of Tucson so this is easy for me to get here, and we go 6-7 times a year. If you are local, buy the annual pass as it’s a better deal than the daily rate. Or come after 5or6 pm for a short sunset hike and you will likely avoid paying as the toll-both is unmanned as it approaches sunset!
The hike is really a paved road now and there is even a shuttle bus if you wants to see the beautiful sights w/o the work! The top is about 7 miles (To see 7 Falls) but you can turn around at any point as well as go off to the side trails to see small pools/the river.
Bring sunscreen and a towel as you will need to cross some wet areas if there has been recent rain, and you may want to keep your feet dry after you wade through some shallow water at times.
Net, this is a beautiful hike and worth doing!

Bought tickets one day ahead. Glad we did because it did sell out for the whole day. The round trip ($12 per person) was a great activity for our group of eight, which included some who wouldn't have been able to hike the route. If you are able, I would recommend taking the Crawler to the farthest point and walking back (along the paved road/path). You can hop on/hop off the Crawler so if you're done walking, you can hop on a Crawler at one of the stops. Great way to see some beautiful scenery.

We have visited 3 times and each time experienced the canyon differently. Would recommend taking the tram ride up to the top of the canyon and then walk the 3.7 miles back to the visitor center. Upon checking into the tram we were given earbuds for the half hour narration about flora, fauna and history. Most of the return walk is down hill. Only a short section is an incline and that could be avoided by getting back on the tram at stop 2. We did take time to sit by the creek to soak in the peaceful setting. We saw folks with picnic food and children swimming in a small pool area. My camera will not do justice to the beauty. A fragrant woodsy smell accompanied us as we walked the return trip on the paved road. It was impressive to see that some folks walk the trail up and back everyday. This is a family friendly activity.

What an example of the awesome beauty of this country! The hiking trails are fantastic, but the tram ride is way beyond worth it!! There are special bridges built for it, so you go through the water. So cool!! I would recommend getting your tram tickets ahead of time. There is a kiosk there, but we found the tram ride for that hour full. We booked for the next hour, but it filled very quickly. If you are visiting that area, this is a must see. The visitors' center has a gift shop and small museum, and the grounds are beautiful for a stroll. Just don't go hungry. Take a picnic basket, or eat heartily ahead of time. Vending machines are offered, and there are cereal bars in the gift shop. We took the tour and wandered the grounds a bit. We had hiked all morning elsewhere, so we didn't hike the canyon. People were wading into the stream (which was full due to recent rain), picnicking, and hiking. It was only 71° on a January afternoon, so our timing was perfect!!

Was disappointed in my trip up Sabino Canyon, but I’m also from Utah and used to a wide range of mountain hikes to choose from. It’s $8 to park, then $12 for a 45 min open air shuttle w a narration abt the cacti and animals of the canyon. The average visitor gets off the shuttle at the top and walks down the canyon on the asphalt road (no shade) for abt 4 miles back to the Visitors Center. There are some off shoot hikes but the only real attraction was two swimming holes that required several hours of hiking to access. Went on the noon shuttle and it was 90 degrees and no shade- too hot for my hiking tastes! Visitors center was very small and didn’t have much to look at. For $20, I think I would have picked another outdoor activity instead.
