The Menger Bar is historical on many accounts. Perhaps the most famous was being the place where Teddy Rosevelt formed the famous “Roughriders!” The bar is virtually untouched as evidenced by the woodwork and the low ceiling under the upper seating area. Festooned around the...More

Visited the bar as was interested in the history of it. Did like reading and seeing the information about Rough Riders etc that is located near the bar area and liked the “old” decoration and feel of the bar. Although the bar was busy there...More

The place is welcoming, you feel like having a glass and eat a snack there. Huge Elk trophy high on the wall gives some special atmosphere to the place. And the appetizers were very good (crab totters and Buffalo wings) but unfortunately the service was...More

The Menger Bar is a small bar tucked into the Menger Hotel not far from the Alamo. The bar is small but beautiful and there is an upstairs balcony. This is a great place for history lovers! Look for the bullet hole in the wall!...More

So much history surrounds this bar and it felt like a step back in time. I almost expected to see Teddy Roosevelt walk around the corner. Definitely a cool experience!

This is where the rough riders were organized by Teddie Roosevelt. The guys would ride the few miles down from Ft. Sam Houston on horseback, tilt a few and define the cavalry unit that won significant battles against Spain, in Cuba. The physical bar is...More

The Menger Hotel is only steps away from the Alamo, so if you’re parched, step into a bit of history, and enjoy a cool libation. The bartender was outgoing, and confided in us that the bar was haunted. Things move without being touched, objects rattle,...More

Great bar with real history inside famous old haunted hotel. What more do you need to know. Supposedly the oldest continuously operating bar west of the Mississippi. Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders here. And, it's a very good bar with excellent and reasonably priced...More
