The Menger Hotel is only steps away from the Alamo, so if you’re parched, step into a bit of history, and enjoy a cool libation. The bartender was outgoing, and confided in us that the bar was haunted. Things move without being touched, objects rattle,...More

Great bar with real history inside famous old haunted hotel. What more do you need to know. Supposedly the oldest continuously operating bar west of the Mississippi. Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders here. And, it's a very good bar with excellent and reasonably priced...More

Had to visit this place since I am a huge fan a TR (total understatement). Great ambiance; enjoyed sitting at the bar listening to the jazz music playing, while sipping some raspberry-tini drink. Whatever it was, it tasted delicious. Cameron was the bartender and was...More

We visited on a Friday evening to have a few drinks after a dinner on the river. We were interested in the history and provenance of the bar. It is small and very dark, but cosy. My partner and I each had one drink because...More

Great little bar tucked into the Menger hotel. Teddy Roosevelt actually sat at this same bar and recruited his rough riders. Place is supposedly haunted, but I never saw him. Great drinks and Texas friendly staff.

Always a good time when you can spend a few hours drinking in a place where history was made. Service was friendly, though at the time there was only one bartender and the place was fairly busy. Prices were great, especially for its location. Margaritas...More

We stopped here after attending airman graduation ceremonies at Lackland AFB. The margaritas were very good. Small place and it can get crowded but still enjoyable.

Located in the Menger Hotel a few blocks from the Alamo. Dark-paneled English Pub with an interesting history. Opened in 1859. President Teddy Roosevelt was a regular here, and used it as a base to attract recruits for his Rough Riders troops. There are many...More

Had to stop and have a beer and mango ice cream. Or as the wife did champagne and mango ice cream. It’s the traditional ice cream, and the bar tender said the only ice cream served in the Menger bar.

There are literally 2 bullet holes in the bar from accidental discharges from when Teddy Roosevelt was recruiting his band of cowboys to go be soldiers in Cuba. Oh, its also a working bar where you can get a cold adult beverage... Wander around (with...More
