While the Menger bar is a stunning historic bar, I am surprised it has been rated as one of the top 10 historic bars in the U.S. which is dissing numerous similar bars that are more deserving. The claim that it is a replica of the House of Lords pub in London, is a fact but this is not a pub. There are no beers on draught and if you have ever visited the UK or are British, bottled beer only, without any British offerings is an abomination. Seeing no quality bottled beers (beers on tap was a bar raised too high) I ordered a Moscow mule. A proper mule is shaken in a cocktail shaker, what I was served was a watered down half shot with a splash of ginger beer. Patrons deserve better. At least start with Texas beers on tap with a UK offering or two, and get your cocktails on with some proper experience.

Step back in time in this historic bar. Fabulous woodwork in this historic bar filled with old photos from way back when. Known for being Teddy Roosevelt's haunt where he recruited many of his riders. Had a couple drinks up at the bar and walked around a few of the halls in the attached historic hotel. Nice servers. next toe the Alamo and Rivercenter Mall. Stop in for a qiuck drink or just to see the history, you won't be disappointed.

Beautiful old bar, wonderful nice staff. Much smaller than I thought. Very rich with history. Unfortunately, they no longer sell or allow cigar smoking inside the bar. It would have been great to have a cigar in the same place is Teddy Roosevelt smoked a cigars. Alas, you can buy weed on any street corner, but a gentleman cannot have a fine cigar.

When I visit new cities I look at trip adviser and ask the locals what I should go see. Many people told me the story about the Menger Bar, so I had to go check it out. Well it is nothing special, I think the owners could do a much better job presenting the history of the old place. There are some poorly lite cabinets with some old uniforms and stuff, but it could be so much more. Our group had one drink and left.

Great bar to drop off for a drink or some snacks. The bar is really nice and a replica of the bar in the a House of Lords in London, UK. Well worth stopping by and if not staying in the hotel I’d recommend having a walk through the Menger lobby as the place is filled with history and is quite unique.

went for my husband's birthday and he absolutelly love the menger bar and the history of it. you can still see the bullet holes in the wall next to the bar. it is small but rich in history and beautifully crafted with solid wood and original mirror behind the bar. the bartenders were friendly . the menger hotel is beautiful as well.

We visited the Menger Bar during a Bad Wolf Pub Crawl Ghost Tour. I can honestly say, I left the bar in tears. The bar staff waited until AFTER we had paid for and received our drinks to yell at my husband and I (and by yell, I mean loud and angry) that the bar was at capacity. We were then told to take our drinks and leave, NOW. I don't know what had set the barmaid off but she made it abundantly clear that we were not welcome to stay. We quietly left.

The Menger Bar is a definite stop when you're visiting the hotel and it's such a comfy place to stay and have a drink. The bar is relatively small, but it has 2 floors, which gives it a bit more room than expected. We enjoyed our drinks and you have to love all of the Teddy Roosevelt/Rough Riders memorabilia given that he recruited people to joint the Rough Riders in this bar (how can you not love that). Definitely check this out when you're in the area!

When I learned about how Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders frequented this bar and there was bully hole put here by Teddy Roosevelt, I wanted to check it out. Lonesome Dove also had scenes filmed here. We took our 3 teens in to check it out. The staff were very friendly and pointed out the bullet hole. It is an historic bar.

I’d give him t 5 stars for the historic ambience. That said, it’s 2024 and I would expect that place like the Menger would have found a way to air condition the bar area properly. The upstairs area was pretty stuffy, and it’s only April…
