Who's in charge?

We had reservations at the FamCamp and as we were driving in I noticed a F4 Phantom displayed outside a building. I was puzzled as to why a F4 would be on an Army base. Then I... read more

I was stationed and trained at Fort Sam Houston as a Medical Service Corps Officer. The Fort is home to the Army Medical Department (AMEDD) Academy of Health Sciences that trains the Army, Navy and Air Force medical personnel. The base offers a great AMEDD Museum that features the many contributions from Army Medicine in peace and war time. The... More

The base is very well keep...compared to others I have stayed at. Stayed at the FamCamp which is very nice and personnel are very helpful. Special treat for me was to visit La Pointe Hall where medics are trained which is named after Joesph Guy La Pointe Jr. whom I served with in Vietnam. The Medical Museum is awesome and... More

If you are a military retiree or active duty and in the area you should consider stopping in for a visit. The Exchange is the largest I have visited. A wide selection of clothing for women but a bit limited on the men's side. A great selection of various household and personal products. The Commissary is huge and well stocked.... More

Our volunteer guide was a former OR nurse with the army who gave great insights in the medical museum. So much fun to see the vehicles used and how medicine has progressed. Loved coming here!

Came to see Fort Sam Houston and found out that we could not to get in due to no sponsors. Very sad that I could not see with being a history buff. They need to find away to allow the public in.

I found this Museum thoroughly interesting and moving. After viewing it...you really appreciate our wonderful soldiers who are doctors, nurses and medics. There is a lot to see...including all the medical equipment used in various wars and a great film on evacuation helicopters. I would recommend this to everyone! A worthwhile visit!

We had reservations at the FamCamp and as we were driving in I noticed a F4 Phantom displayed outside a building. I was puzzled as to why a F4 would be on an Army base. Then I found out the Air Force is in charge of the base, are you kidding me! There are more than one exchange on the... More

This base is huge. We camped there for about two weeks. Great commissary and bx. The map you get at the cam group us worthless and the streets are not well marked. Kinda tough for campers. But all in all...nice place

Went to the Army medical museum to satisfy my love for military nursing. .. my family enjoyed it too and were very pleasantly surprised! The collection of medical equipment is extensive. .. beautifully displayed and had very interesting information presented with each article. I lived here for 2 years, amazing experience. Fort Sam is beautiful. I went to school at the AMEDD C&S, then worked at Brooke Army Medical Center, high tech, clean, brand new amazing facilities! The entire base is awesome.
