The plaza is a nice place to hang out, relax and enjoy a couple of hours of quiet time. Since the Alamo is there, a lot of people tend to congregate here which makes it more interesting.

The Alamo plaza, fronting the Alamo is a large open space with memorials and signage detailing events and people. There is a huge monument, erected in 1936 that is so massive, it cant be caught on film whole. Across the street is also a piece of the original wall (located at the entrance to riverwalk). What makes it a tourist... More

We had a great time reviewing the history of the Alamo. We have been at the Alamo 10 years ago and had the children with us and didn't take time to read all the history. This time we stopped and read the history.

This seems to have lost something with all of the "tourist" things around it. The Alamo, itself, is wonderful, but the Plaza is a bit much.

This is a must for history buffs. Great presentation of Texan history. Original artifacts of the siege of the Alamo.

We've explored this area several times over the years with kids ranging from 2 to 10. We have done most of the stuff across the street from the alamo, wax museum, haunted house, MIRROR MAZE!!!, Texas de Brazil, pretty sure there's a starbucks in the area, we got ice cream once, the list goes on.

History, history and more history. Bottom line - make sure you put this on your "to do" list when in San Antonio. It's smaller than many people expect and it won't take much of your day to have a quality visit there. It's always fun when they celebrate special events/dates.

Everyone has likely heard the story of the Alamo or seen a movie or two on the subject. Visiting the Alamo gives history perspective and you can feel the history of Texas on the property. It is free and worth the visit.
