We used to go twice a year and had wonderful time watching the birds. And there is usually lots of them. However, about year ago, the management had to change and it made the place less accessible. Needless to say that admission fee is higher than what it was a year ago and the visitors will not get full access... More

Hi czeckmate, So sorry you didn’t enjoy your latest visit to our center. We did indeed have a change of management about two years ago, and with the change actually came more open hours and we’ve opened our gate to be more accessible to the public (previous management chose to leave the gate closed during open hours). We did increase... More

This is a must stop for anyone remotely interested in birding & nature. Located in south San Antonio, the Mitchell Lake Audubon Center is stewarded by the Texas Audubon Society. The love and caring for this amazing area is readily apparent. Visitors can choose to hike some or all of the seven miles of available trails or take a break... More

We planned one whole day of our limited vacation to visit this site. After driving several hours, we arrived at 10:15 a.m. to be told they would be closing at noon for staff training. We were also told that the roads were closed to vehicles because of mud. We spent our entire time walking down roads that were in no... More

This Audubon is a great way to get outdoors and show our children why conservation and caring for our environment is so important. Brought cub scouts out years ago, and they completely enjoyed it.

Closed the day after thanksgiving. Why? No black Friday for birding. Maybe we'll try again tomorrow, this is crazy.

A tad out of the way, this facility is a wonderful location to enjoy some great birding. Lots of water, trees, and open spaces attract many different species. Wear comfortable shoes, because you may do a lot of walking. Some of the unpaved roads were closed after heavy rains, so we put many miles on our shoes. Definitely worth a... More

This is a great place to see a wide variety of birds, especially in the spring and fall when they're migrating. Wear comfortable shoes and bring binoculars.

We went on a bird watching tour here and really enjoyed it. The staff was very informative and nice. They took us to different stops in the preserve to view the birds on the water. We had a very nice time!
