This is an easily recognizable building in downtown San Antonio. It was completed in 1929, right at the start of the Great Depression. Only the Tower Life Building and the adjacent Plaza Hotel were completed before the Depression sank the economy and the development. Once reputed to be the tallest building west of the Mississippi River, the Tower Life Building... More

There was no access to the building to people who are not tenants, but it is beautiful to see from the outside. Art Deco architecture, gargoyle drain spouts. If you really want to see the inside, there was a movie made inside called, “Cloak and Dagger” that you can still find. Beautiful to see at night!

Interesting by day or night. There are gargoyles on the top level that serve as rains pouts. On lower levels are other interesting heads and statues. Something of a gothic Art Deco place. Interesting to study.

As soon as we stepped out on our 23rd floor balcony at the Marriott Riverwalk, this building caught our eye. It was close to dusk, the upper part of the building was lit up, and the flag on a 100 foot tall flagpole was flying in the breeze. Something moving about all that. Since it is 30 stories high, we... This is a wonderful building and a classic version if this era of arc hectare. The building has lots of charm and should be on your list.

If you researched San Antonio before visiting, there is no mistaking this building when you see it. The architecture really stands out. At night when the top is lit up is just gorgeous. Also, nothing like seeing that flag fly high from so many areas around town :)

An easily recognizable building in downtown, the Tower Life Building is an historic piece of architecture that grabs the attention and imagination of all those who visit the city. It was first opened in 1929 and ranks as one of the city’s most famous landmarks. Tower Life Building is a medium- size tower, about 400 feet high and with 30... More

This is a very interesting building with a flag flying from the top downtown. I photographed it several times when down by the Alamo because it just draws so much attention. Perhaps because nothing else in San Antonio seems to be like it. It is as classy as the Great Gatsby

We could see this building from our Bed and Breakfast porch and decided to check it out. The doorman has worked there 40 years and was very helpful giving us all the information and showing us pictures regarding this building. Definitely worth the walk to find it!

Ok let me start by telling a little about me. I LOVE old buildings and I am an elevator enthusiast. I go around the country looking at historic buildings and elevator systems and I am usually welcomed with open arms by building managers and staff as my photography and videos are usually an asset to the property owner. Here that... More
