We were going to a fall fabric art thing where you could buy the art (forgot what it was called). When we were leaving a man stopped us and asked if we would like to see the theatre which was roped off with a sign that said don’t go in. He took us on a private tour which was so incredible we were all wondering what lottery we won to be picked to go in absolutely gorgeous and such a rich history. FIVE STARS

If you are a Mason, have family who are Masons, hope to discern more about the air of mysticism surrounding Freemasonry, are a movie buff, or simply enjoy Santa Fe history and architecture i encourage you to call to take a tour of the Scottish Rite Temple or College. It was very informative. The Alhambra Theatre is lovely (of particular interest is backstage). Setting for Tina Fey's movie Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. Younger children might be bored depending on how talky the adults want to be. No charge, but leave a nice donation for this upkeep of this New Mexico landmark.

What a beauty! This edifice is across Paseo del Peralta from the courthouse. The vibrant rose-pink building absolutely glows on a beautiful sun-bright day.
We have been to Spain's Alhambra and now here we were, having a "deja vu" moment. Seeing the key-style entry to this monumental structure took us back to the Moorish/Muslim design of the historic treasure "across the pond".
It seems so unapproachable, so formidable, so "important" that we just never explored the opportunity to tour this treasure. But wait, there is more!
If you would like to visit the Temple in person, tours are given Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00am or 2:00pm. Please call 505-980-9304 to schedule a day and time.
Why would any tourist NOT take advantage of this opportunity? Now you know, so plan accordingly!

What an amazing temple. The craftsmanship is phenomenal. A must see to wow your eyes. The history of it is bad to the bone! The performance was amazing!

The Scottish Rite Temple is a Masonic temple also known as Scottish Rite Cathedral or Santa Fe Lodge of Perfection.
It was built in the early years of the 20th Century in what is called "Moorish Revival" architectural style.
What makes it worthy of note is that is was built before Sante Fe introduced strict building ordinances proscribing the architectural style of all buildings in Santa Fe, namely Pueblo Style, Territorial and Norther New Mexico. These are all abode brick with red mud stucco cladding, giving the buildings of Santa Fe a very uniform style.
With its Moorish influenced architecture and pink brick structure, the Scottish Rite Temple stands out as decidedly different.
