I went with my fiends from Nova Scotia who are birders - they were thrilled. We sat in the lovely garden and watched the birds. The trail above the center was closed due to fire danger. The Randall Davey house is open for tours once...More

Due to high fire danger the main trail was closed. So we could only walk around the lower grounds. There were lots of bird feeders and quite a few birds. There was a class underway for young people. The old buildings provide a nice feature...More

This is a great place for birding I am told. We just like to do some easy hiking through a very beautiful area. Easy and slow little climb with pines and flowers blooming. Maybe a 1/2 mile hike. Longer if you go into Bear canyon....More

We arrived in October--there were only hummingbirds and a gray junco there. We missed the migration period. We did walk the trail on the hill which was pleasant but without birds. They were at the feeders at the center.

There is a board with the postings of sightings of various bird species at the visitor's center. Be sure to take the walk around the lake if you go.

First time we had gone to this location and we were pleasantly surprised. Very close to the city but you feel a million miles away. Nice environment, good hiking trails and a lot of nice bird feeders set up by the welcome center. Not a...More

We have parked outside the gate when the center was closed during the winter. I imagine it is fine as long as you do not block the road for people coming later. Road is narrow.
