Bought tickets to see Thomas Hampson, "America's foremost baritone," only to find that Hampson isn't performing after all. I understand, things happen, but the Lensic refuses to issue a refund. Yes, it's in the fine print. Yes, they legally have the right. And yes, I'll think twice before spending so much money on a Lensic event again.

We got the last two tickets to see mariachi Christmas in the last row of the balcony and the seats and sound were fine. There truly is not a bad seat in the house.

This is an old theatre transformed into a very good concert hall. We were there for a Mozart and Haydn concert performed by Anne-Marie McDermott and the Santa Fe Pro Musica Orchestra. The Haydn piece, Symphony No. 90 in C Major was conducted by Thomas O’Connor. Not only did Ms. McDermott perform on the piano but she conducted the two Mozart pieces. All did a magnificent job and we are thrilled we were finally able to hear something performed at the Lensic Performing Arts Center.

We go often to the Lensic--
MetHD, High School for the Arts, ProMusica, special events. It is a very special place in Santa Fe. It was renovated by the Zeckendorfs about 15 years ago and it has very good sound and a large stage with a screen. The interior is stunning and the seats are comfortable. We like it very much.

We attended the joint performance of Ailyn Pérez and Greg Mathewman, the latter just in from London. Ms. Pérez beautifully filled the house with her voice, loud and soft, and even with humming somehow projected to the audience. Her wizard of an accompanist was her peer in this marvelous show with one intermission, and the Theater gave her a wonderful place to demonstrate both power and subtlety, and to act the music as much as singing it. She also mentioned she will be back at the Opera this summer as Juliet. Should be a treat, as this show was.

This jewel of a theater hold a great variety of different events appealing to a very broad scope of interests. There is usually something going on there. Look at their lineup to see what appeals to your tastes. The Aspen Ballet's Nutcracker there in December is one of the very best and the seating is all very nice. We just went to see the Circus Luminous tonight. It was not our favorite but it was still enjoyable and the theater was so comfortable even while having a full house. Concerts, movies, ballet, Jazz, you name it and the Center puts it out there for you to enjoy. You buy tickets on line or from the box office downtown.
The staff and ushers are wonderful and helpful on performance nights.

Cool old theatre. Attendants were nice and helpful. They need to figure bathroom situation out though, downstairs and outside too far.

Saw Aimee Mann there couple of weeks ago. Nice, intimate theater space. The space architecture alone is worth a visit; historic Art Deco via Santa Fe, yet Lensic has great line-ups to enjoy. Well worth more than one visit.

During 1931 when this vaudeville theater opened, Art Deco was all the rage but not in the minds-eye of the Boller Brothers who designed anything but ordinary theaters across the US landscape. A relatively recent $9M renovation (1999-2001) put his beauty back in the spotlight.
The golden-toned exterior comes to life when the sun shines on it. The pseudo-balcony at the top of the building has all the bells and whistles to be found at The Alhambra in Spain. The intricate work evokes foreign motifs in this one-of-a-kind architecture.
The roof line is decorated with scalloped dragon heads and mini-spires that look like small minarets. The style is a grand mish-mash of Moorish, Spanish, baroque, Middle Eastern and Renaissance. It's sort of like 1001 Arabian Nights meets Tales of the Alhambra (and it is all good).
The name for the theater derives from the first letters of sponsors' children's names made into a word. Maybe it works for some but it lacks the flair for imagination that the architecture delivers.
During our one-week visit, the theater's performing arts schedule did not have a show going on. I would dearly love to attend a concert there someday.
Find this treasure next door to Burro Alley on W. San Francisco Street. A little further away at 215 E. Palace Avenue is another fantastic dragon hanging off the roof in a most menacing way. Dragons in Santa Fe, who would have guessed?

Old became new when the community support rebuilt/refurbished this grand old Lensic Performing Arts Center. All types of entertainment: HD's from the NY Met Opera, art history movies, wonderful Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, local symphony, imported entertainment from around the world: from China and beyond! Family entertainment; etc, etc, etc. Efficient, pleasant box office, gracious volunteers.
