I went to the Sunday Market. I liked the selection of art work there. It is a big, sunny building. Each artist has enough room to showcase their wares. I liked being able to talk to the artists, something that doesn’t really happen in most galleries.

It was a terrific idea to develop this area, but sadly nothing happened. The main buildings remain unoccupied and any businesses that tried to move in have failed. There is a mediocre restaurant and a good multiplex theatre. Other than that it is a wasteland!

Sana Fe is known for its many galleries, but the Railyard District is now home to several modern, bright galleries offering artists from around the world. galleryFRITZ, Charlotte Jackson, Evoke, and SITE Santa FE are some of my favorites. Plus, the Farmer's Market is on-site and REI and Violet Crown Cinema, too.

We enjoyed our time here, however it wasn't quite what we expected. It has definitely resurrected a part of town that had run down after the decline of the railroads, however at the cost of losing many historic buildings.

In one area, the historic railroad buildings have been preserved and repurposed. Around the rest of the area, new buildings have been built to resemble warehouse type buildings that were originally in the area.

It is mostly filled with restaurants, brewpubs, a few shops, a theater, and an REI. Although it is labeled as an arts district, we didn't really see much art. It was nice to see an actual farmers market with produce for sale, rather than an arts and crafts market.

How lucky were we! Out on a walk and happening upon the last few minutes of this really super artists' show. The vendor had beautiful and unique shirts she designs and was kind enough to stay open so we could make a purchase.

The Railyard has certainly become a major attraction in Santa Fe. Over the years, we've seen it blossom to become a destination. While there, a big bike race was winding down and all participants were met with full-throttle rounds of amplified applause. This is community togetherness as it should be.

Adjacent to the railyard is a truly special park for children of all ages (that would be you and me, and the little ones too). But that is the subject of another review.

Santa Fe is evolving. The Railyard is a reminder of how far it has come and suggests the best is yet to come!

We visited last Sunday as my husband was really interested in seeing the "Artists market". There were some very talented artists who had made some beautiful pieces of jewelry and art to sell, but the building is very small and we walked the whole place in under 20 minutes. Outside the craft building there is a large REI and a movie theatre but many of the storefronts in the plaza were closed with signs that say "coming soon".

Walked through this area during the disappointing Farmers Market. We weren't allowed in one of the buildings because we had coffee! Ridiculous. Not much to look at, my pictures show anything we saw that was remotely interesting. There was one man playing music on a guitar and singing. Architecture in Santa Fe is neat, but you can see better things in other parts of the city.

Here on Saturday you will find a nice little farmer’s market and on Sundays there is and an Artisan Market . There is also a building here called El Mercado Del Museo which houses lots of items for sale including crafts, rugs, rocks, western wear, antiques and so much more! Parking can be interesting. We easily parked our dually for $5 at the New Mexico School for the Arts! It was a little bit of a walk but easy in and out and the money went to the school.

An interesting local spot worth the visit. Don't miss the Art Vault and the other galleries. Evoke Contemporary is a MUST-SEE - art that takes your breath away featuring the brilliant work of Louisa McElwain

This place is a pitiful mess of eastern U.S. tin can architecture..
Seriously could have been done so much better.
It had REI that basically killed the Ma and Pop Outdoor camping an hiking mountaineering businesses!!

Thank you so much.
