Whale watching in Sitka Alaska

I have been whale watching off the coast of Ireland and California, but nothing compares to whale watching onboard the Esther G with Captain Davey in Sitka Alaska.

Captain Davey created an amazing adventure for my son and me during our visit to Sitka. A charismatic Captain who coupled his expert seamanship (I have never felt safer on the water) with his encyclopedic knowledge of the Southeast Alaskan waters to create a once in a lifetime adventure that was the highpoint of our trip to Sitka. While we... More

My wife and I along with my sister in-law and brother in-law spent six of the best hours ever on the Ester G with Captain Davey! We had been to Alaska seven years ago and took a whale trip out of Seward which was great. Now, however, we know how a REAL whale watching experience should be. Captain Davey was... More

Capt. Davey went out of his way to accomodate us when we found out another tour we were going to take had sold out. So glad we were referred to him. My only regret is that we didn't have more time because of our cruise ship schedule. He was able to drop us right at the dock literally steps from... More

Capt. Davey was the best. We had a wonderful up close and personal trip that was informational as well as mind blowing! The sea life, the birds, whales, seals. Unbelievable! Small boat for up to 6 people was perfect. Would do this again in a heartbeat!

Davey provided to-the-door service from the Totem Hotel and a great trip to see humpback whales. His extensive natural and local history knowledge would make his an ideal first tour to take. We got as close as you can get to the whales and also saw sea lions and otters. Davey's enthusiasm is infectious and the Esther G is quite... More

I had THE BEST time with Captain Davey! I had been in Sitka for two weeks, and had not seen any whales during my stay....until I met Captain Davey! Not only did I see one, but I was able to see about 30 whales, some puffins, sea lions, and sea otters. The boat itself was clean, fairly spacious, and it... More

We have done two trips with Dave (and Esther!) and commend Dave’s friendliness; deep knowledge of the region and its wildlife; flexibility in terms of meeting client wishes to the degree wind and weather will allow; and, of great importance considering you’ll be spending hours with him on a not very large boat, his great and genuine enthusiasm for where... I was recently up with a friend in Alaska and Davey took us out for a tour in and around the Sitka Bay area. It was fantastic - we saw whales, jumping fish and eagle nests along with the beautiful island sceneries. It's truly and amazing experience. As our host, Davey was very personable and has a great sense of... More

We visited Sitka on a Regent cruise a couple weeks ago. We were originally booked for an Ocean Adventure Raft excursion through the ship, but a booking snafu discovered at dinner the night before left us with no plans. We texted our travel agent back on the east coast for help. She found Davey and contacted him about 7 or... More
