Debi, our wonderful tour guide also volunteers here, so she told us all about the bears and how this facility helped out troubled bears. She stood by our group and told us about each bear, where they came from, what they like, how they use...More

We visited FOB on our trip to Sitka via a cruise. It was a breathtaking experience to view these gorgeous creatures up close. The caretakers were so gracious, knowledgable, and very clearly passionate about the work they do. We absolutely loved our visit, and hope...More

A great way to safely see bears up close. The people who run this are very knowledgeable and passionate about what they do.

It was nice watching the bears play, but what made this even more memorable was when a worker (the owner? director?) tossed salmon to the bears for a treat. The bears got their share, but dozens of eagles watching from the trees swooped and soared,...More

This was most definitely a highlight of our Alaskan cruise and was so affordable and easy to get to. The bears are captivating and we loved watching them communicate with their keepers using simple sign language Tobi the bear requested "more" salmon and was successful...More

great views of bears in man-made habitat. They are trained to some extend and fun to watch. It was a rainy day when I was there, but still nice to see them in this habitat.

Non profit sanctuary for orphaned bear cubs who would otherwise be euthanized. We loved watching the bears up close and listening to the rescuers' stories!

We enjoyed our visit! The enclosures are not huge but the bears are well cared for. You can see them up close and I'm so glad they rescued them. All the money they make goes directly to the bears so we didn't book a tour,...More

Don't expect the glitz and glamour of the San Diego Zoo, but do expect to be entertained. The Fortress is an old pulp mill that has been let go and now houses the bears. The Fortress keeper has done an excellent job training the bears...More

We will be on a cruise in late August and are looking forward to visiting! My only concern is how many steps to the platforms do you have? Read where the best viewing is on the platform but interested in knowing how many steps and how steep they are? Are they dry or slippery? Looking forward to your prompt response to my inquiries.
