- Dana BFlagstaff, Arizona6 contributionsSound Bathing at Sacred RitesIf you like hard-to-find musical instruments with spiritual, cultural, or indigenous significance, I would highly recommend Sacred Rites on San Fransisco Street just off Route 66. The owner, Kelly, is very passionate about helping people connect to the Divine and offers all kinds of instruments and sacred art (figurines and prints) from different traditions around the world that help people tap into that realm. Ask Kelly to demonstrate for you the Singing Chair or Soundwave bed, that are basically monochords and are simply amazing to experience. Kelly calls these demonstrations "sound therapy" or "sound bathing."Visited April 2023Written April 24, 2023

It seems to vary from extremely busy to very quiet depending on the time of the year, with college life at the nearby NAU having a significant impact. Love the railroad and the huge freight trains that come passing through every 20-30 minutes or so.Visited May 2023Written May 29, 2023

Locals may know about all the one way streets and the inner secrets of parking but I certainly didn't. Sunday night about 6pm and I drove in circles up and down along dark streets looking for parking. Cars are inches from my bumper as I try to navigate. I wasn't about to park 6 blocks away and be expected to carry my camera bag with me so we left and ate by our hotel. HORRIBLE place if you don't know the area well. We never even had a chance to get out of the car. Even decided NOT to try and stop on Tuesday afternoon on our way out of town.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 25, 2023

There are plenty of restaurants and bars, there are some interesting old buildings to see. Shopping is almost non-existent. They have more to do to make this area appealing

This is my favorite downtown in AZ. There are a lot of different types of businesses and things going on (rock climbing, Kung Fu academy, concerts, tattoos, plants, tea shops, all different types of merchants/galleries). Lots of historic buildings. Great restaurants. Generally safe (Southside can get slightly sketch at night but it's not bad). Parking kinda sucks, but it's nice to walk so I don't really care.

The downtown area has some great old buildings with the Main Street on route 66.
Doesn’t take long to walk around it and something worth while doing.

We stopped at Flagstaff on the way to the Grand Canyon and did two worthwhile free self-guided walking tours. Stop by the Visitor Center to pick up the brochures. The Historic Tour takes about 30 minutes and gives you a good sense of the town. Even better, though, is the Route 66 Audio Tour (I think it took about 45 minutes). Visit about a dozen stops (all in town and easily walkable), dial a number on your phone, and listen to an audio tour of the history of the iconic road. The tour also passes several restaurants where you can sit outdoors (we had delicious coffee at Macy's). There are several cool murals along both routes.

Yes, a college town. Yes, craft breweries and shops. Yet it has a certain history and I think it still has some charm. When in the area, it seems worthy of a visit to me.

There are a dozen stores and two dozen restaurants in easy walking area. There was a small street festival in the central area where one block was closed. Crafts, hot chocolate, smores, a band. Great downtown area.

Is it always free parking or is that a covid thing?

It is because of the Covid Virus. The meters were closed. Taped up.

We stayed at the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Flagstaff. It is a new, very clean hotel with many restaurants nearby. (The Olive Garden was exceptionally good when we dined there). This hotel is very close to the downtown area, without all the traffic and train noise. Their prices were reasonable, along with a free hot breakfast, which was included. If we are ever in the Flagstaff, AZ area again, we will be staying at this La Quinta Inn & Suites.

Yes. There are lots of dogs in Flagstaff. Several stores have water bowls by their front door for furry friends.

It takes about 8 minutes from your hotel to the Railroad District. You can go North from your hotel and take route 66 west to Flagstaff Visitor Center. Enjoy your stay.

Is the Pope catholic? Downtown Flagstaff is super dog friendly. You almost need to have one to fit in. Can birds fly? Is fire hot? Are there 24 hours in a day? Just giving you a hard time:)
