Made the mistake of hiking without crampons. Don't go if it recently snowed as most of the snow will have turned into ice, making the trail treacherous. Had to turn around at mile 3 because of the ice. I will be back in the Spring...More

We took the summer chair lift to the top, one of the last for this year, sky season starts next week. Snow at the top but bright sunshine and clear skies. It was below freezing but felt good in the sunshine. Definitely worth the trip.

Plan to open 6-8 hours. You must be a very good shape. You may feel the altitude - headache nausea. If you do, turn around and descend. Great views!!!!

Our GPS said the round-trip distance was 10.75, almost 2 miles longer than many of the apps say. It was a demanding but rewarding hike. We hiked it end to end in 6:34 at the snowbowl trailhead. The climb from saddle to summit is especially...More

Decided to hike Humphrey's Peak as a training hike before Machu Picchu. If you hike during monsoon season, GO EARLY. I was on the trail at 7AM and on the way down, experienced hail, rain and winds. As people do mention, it is a difficult...More

We drove up to the chairlift and had a lovely ride up the mountain. The majestic views were fantastic. We hiked around a bit, took a ton of pictures - rested at the little restaurant and enjoyed a snack and drink.

This is a difficult hike. About 11 miles round trip from parking lot to summit. Steep challenges on the way up and rocks/roots all the way down. It took us almost 7 hours.

There are National Forests around the base. last I knew of you don't need a permit. Check in with the Coconino NF folks or the local outfitter to be sure.

I don't think the snow lifts operates in the summer. And I know the lifts don't go up to Mt. Humphrey. You might get thunderstorms in July so just check the weather before you go on a long hike. Hope this helps.
