Decided to hike Humphrey's Peak as a training hike before Machu Picchu. If you hike during monsoon season, GO EARLY. I was on the trail at 7AM and on the way down, experienced hail, rain and winds. As people do mention, it is a difficult...More

We drove up to the chairlift and had a lovely ride up the mountain. The majestic views were fantastic. We hiked around a bit, took a ton of pictures - rested at the little restaurant and enjoyed a snack and drink.

This is a difficult hike. About 11 miles round trip from parking lot to summit. Steep challenges on the way up and rocks/roots all the way down. It took us almost 7 hours.

We drove up 180 to the Grand Canyon--through twists and turns and when Humphrey's Peak came into view as a regal snow topped mountain--we caught our breathe. It was a beautiful scene on the horizon.

This mountain can be viewed from quite a distance. THe peak is snow-covered (at least in May it was).

we drove Hwy 180 from the grand canyon to Flagstaff. Humphreys Peak was a breathtaking sight...Very beautiful....I really suggest Hwy 180 for a very scenic drive.

The trail up Humphreys peak is great. If you are a hiker like me, you will appreciate the wideness and that there is relativly "no traffic jams" up this trail.

We hiked to the summit of Humphrey's Peak in late October. It was fantastic. The views are amazing, the trail is well-marked, and there's summit register on top. Totally worth the effort.

There are National Forests around the base. last I knew of you don't need a permit. Check in with the Coconino NF folks or the local outfitter to be sure.

I don't think the snow lifts operates in the summer. And I know the lifts don't go up to Mt. Humphrey. You might get thunderstorms in July so just check the weather before you go on a long hike. Hope this helps.
