As a regular state high pointer, I found Humphreys Peak to be a refreshingly straightforward hike. It's about 4.5 miles long (one way) with around 3500 feet of elevation gain. But the trail is easy to follow and well maintained. There's nothing technical about it....More

I did this hike on a trip to Flagstaff and it stands out in my mind as one of the best hikes I’ve done in awhile. A couple of pointers up front: It’s a bit of a challenging hike. It’s 9.2 miles out and back....More

Classic Flagstaff Hike. 10 miles up and down from Snowbowl w/ a 3,500 foot ascent. Once above tree line the views are world class. Well worth the 4-6 hours of hiking for this gem. It ascends the highest pt. In AZ @ about 12,600 feet.

Came to Flagstaff (instead of Grand Canyon) for a long day hike, and was pleasantly surprised by the trails towards Humphrey's Peak. We started out aiming for the peak, though the staff in the ski lodge were brutally honest about winds and temperatures. We were...More

I have tackled this trail in three different, non-consecutive summers, with a wide variety of companions, and have been provided with a rich and varied experience each time, in no way redundant. Because afternoon thunderstorms, especially, are possible at any point in the summer, it...More

Probably the biggest challenge in terms of endurance and altitude in AZ. For me, the biggest negative are the number of rocks on the trail. Kendrick is more enjoyable in that respect.

This is a great trail for anyone because it's not extremely dangerous and you can turn back as soon as you feel you've reached your uphill limit. Do this hike early on summer or warm spring/fall days otherwise you will be really cold for the...More
