Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.

My son and I decided to go visit some of the Newport Mansions outside the tourist season. And we had this grand ( 1902) house all by ourself. Apart from the (very friendly) staff of course. It's a beautiful place and we were lucky to...More

Worth the visit and they as the other mansions have a hearing device for self guided tours. Each mansion brings you a different perspective of how life was in the Gilded Age in Newport.

I really loved this tour! My friends and I in our twenties went and loved the new audio Blu sets! Made the tour really interesting and easy to follow. I also actually really enjoyed the fashion exhibit! The exhibit was different but also cool to...More

The fashion exhibit of Pierre Cardin's work saved my experience as the exhibit was amazing! However, the mansion tour itself was disappointing. I had time for one mansion tour on my trip and I definitely wish I had chosen a different mansion. Next time.....

Only a few rooms have been preserved or recreated in their original Gilded Age style. This mansion is largely used for private events and special art exhibits on the second floor. I would only recommend if you are short on time and want to see...More

I felt fortunate that I was able visit Rosecliff while the Pierre Cardin exhibit was there. The fashions which were on display were truly amazing and representative of their time. While the mansion is not as opulent as some of the others, the tour is...More

After seeing the Breakers, Elms and Marble House I was disappointed with Rosecliff. It’s outside grounds are beautiful however once inside it felt like a wedding hall. Most of the rooms were bare and not quite as taken care of as the other mansions. Took...More

Rosecliff is not as spectacular as the Elms, Marble House or the Breakers. I have been to two black-tie events here that were well done. Great setting for a fancy event but as a straight tour, the other houses stand out.

There is a self-guided audio tour for this house that allows you to take your own pace inside the house. The grounds are great as well and worth a walk around. If you are in Newport, this is one for the to-do list and worth...More

Fabulous! So cool to experience an event in a place like this with so much historical fascination. The on site catering staff were amazing and all the food was delicious!

Hi! There is no set dress code because the Pierre Cardin exhibition is just like any other museum exhibition you would go to. Dress as fashionably as you'd like - but definitely, wear comfortable shoes is the one thing I... More
