Just call Thames Street "Main Street". It's just a beautiful setting; all kinds of shops and restaurants and then, across the street, you have Newport Harbor. Just a street or two up you can see all kinds of neat houses (old, old homes).

We enjoyed walking the entire length of Thames Street. There lots of restaurants and small speciality shops. The entire downtown area is a good place for a walk & grab a bite to eat. You can also get trolley tickets at the visitor center.

So many shops with unique items. Many places to eat, most with optional outside seating. Great for just relaxing and people watching!

The heart of Newport. Enjoy. Relax. Eat. Shop. Explore. Thames Street has it all. Great shops. Antiques. Eateries. Great place to people watch and to simply have fun.

Thames was as short walk from the Blue Jewel where we stayed. Many shops and restaurants. Right along the wharf. Very clean, inviting, and we felt safe day or night.

Typical tourist street, but the shops are nicer than junky souvenir shops. Art galleries with nautical themes abound. Great place to stroll.

There are so many shops and restaurants around and on Thames Street - it was the first street we strolled and what a treasure trove of things to go back to!

Great place to walk along and pop in and out of stores. Lots to look at and buy from clothing to novelties, antiques, fudge and popcorn and restaurants. Parking cost $10 and lots of parking areas throughout the street. Lots of Resturant choices. Only thing...More

Thames Street is a quaint little shopping area with restaurants, bars, shops and marinas in downtown Newport. Some of the shops were closed when we visited, likely because it’s not peak season yet. Slightly disappointed as we expected some more unique shops but it was...More
