Ooooowee, baby. This historic landmark is situated offshore in what feels like the middle of Narragansett Bay. Ships and pleasure craft pass to the west and sailboat races are almost daily all summer. One must reach the lighthouse by boat and the ferry runs fairly frequently. I believe the rooms are booked months in advance but it's a lovely place... More

Fun to stay overnight at the lighthouse. We had the second floor apartment which is fully equiped and has a private bath. Bring your own food, but there is drinking water and a few spices and condiments if you want to use them. On the night we were there, only one other couple was staying there, too, even though the... We love Rose Island Light! It is beautiful and we enjoyed our tour. The guide was knowledgeably and friendly. We spent a little over 1 hour here. It is small but it's a great lighthouse (and supposedly haunted too!). The scenery is also great. I will say that it is very hard to get to the top. You have to... More

We were fortunate that the island (a bird sanctuary of sorts) had just opened for the public. There is a 'landing fee' of $5.00 per person. The lighthouse has a very cute interior and the climb up is fairly easy. When you get to the top, there is a small window/door to crawl through which allows access to the platform.... More

Pricey to take the Newport-Jamestown ferry to get there, but you can ferry all around the bay for the rest of the day after an interesting visit to the lighthouse. Beautiful views, interesting history and LOTS of birds.

I've always wanted to stay overnight in a lighthouse and this was just what I imagined it to be. The reservation process was very easy, the boat ride over to the island was fun and my time on the island was just great! The weather was a bit rainy for part of my time there, but that didn't matter -... More

The $5 cash landing fee is worth every penny. The bosun greets you and gives you a brief intro to the island. The gatekeepers' cottage has been restored to 1912; it provides the access to the lighthouse with its great view of Newport. The beach roses are lovely. There is sea glass on the beach. The military outbuildings are zealously... More

I stayed overnight at the lighthouse as a light house keeper and there IS ELECTRIC POWER AND RUNNING WATER. The stay was awesome. Kayaked around the island . Watched the sunset and sunrise from the op of the lighthouse. Capt Chris picks you up at Fort Adams and takes you over. It was so peaceful watching the ships and sail... More
