Many of Hawaii’s alii (royalty) lived in Waikiki and King Kalakaua selected a 300-acre track of land at the base of Diamond Head for a public park in 1867. Today, it is a gathering place that thrives with walkers, runners, tennis enthusiasts and picnickers. Grab lunch on Kalakaua Avenue and enjoy it in one of the shaded picnic areas scattered around this colorful park.

I am not certain that the Queen Kapiolani hibiscus garden is technically part of Kapiolani Park, but it is at the southeast corner of this large park and worth seeking out, since it has plantings of many quite unusual looking hibiscus. At the opposite northwest...More

Such a beautiful park /beach with white sand and not many people. There is lots of grass to picnic on and lots of sand to sunbathe / walk on. Not many restrooms or restaurants right on the beach so bring water and food.

I thought the beach was great - you can walk all along the beach from the hotels along Waikiki. I didnt think the park was any thing special. Bascially a large expanse of plaincut grass mich like a field, with a few trees, shrubs around...More

When I think of Waikiki, I think of beaches and tourists and hotels. I didn't realize that there is a lovely walkable park next to the beach. We had a delightful morning walk and wish we had had more time just to stroll down the...More

We've been to Kapiolani Park in Waikiki MANY times and it's always more beautiful than the time before! It's lush and gorgeous but we do miss the Kodak Hula Show still after all these years!

Was so beautiful to stroll on this beach. There are homeless folks all over Waikiki but they are not intrusive and no one did any panhandling.

What a great park, so green and inviting, and the flowers are amazing. The zoo in the park is well worth visiting, especially for children.

Gathering place for the locals. Birthday parties and team practices here. Lots of walkers every day. Right across from the beach. Wish the city would put in some nice water features to liven up the park and bring it up to date with some mainland...More

We have walked through a craft show and the Lei Day in May,2012. The park has a small duck pond, ball fields, a par course.

There are a lot of places you can ask about schedules of events. But the front desk of your hotel should have some of that information and they usually had booklets about the many different tours, etc.

You will find a few fish around here but nothing terribly exciting. If it's snorkeling you're after - sign up with a private tour (we used OPT) where local guides take you to the best snorkeling places around the island... More
