Overview
More
The resting place for more than 25,000 victims of three American Wars - World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War – this is truly the “Cemetery of Heroes.” Punchbowl was formed some 75,000 to 100,000 years ago during the Honolulu period of secondary volcanic activity. A crater resulted from the ejection of hot lava through cracks in the old coral reefs that, at the time, extended to the foot of the Koolau Mountain Range. Of special note is a monument honoring Hawaii-born astronaut Ellison Onizuka, who perished aboard the Challenger space shuttle in 1986. Also noteworthy are the Courts of the Missing, white stone tablets bearing the names of those missing in action from World War II.

After visiting the Arizona we followed up with a visit here. Like many other older VA cemeteries,, this one is closed to new internments unless approved by congress. There's also a great view of Honolulu from an observation point.

My uncle and Aunty are buried here. We walked around the monument. There are mosaics of all the major battles with discriptive information. Excellent history lesson. Worth a visit.

Perhaps the only place where there is a National Cemetery and extinct volcano comes together. The “Punchbowl” is one of the natural wonders of Oahu. It also makes a great picture overlooking Honolulu and Waikiki areas. Over 30,000 people are buried here at the National...More

Went there as part of our tour of the island. Tour buses aren't allowed to let you off but a good guide can give you tons of information.

What a beautiful place. Incredible mid-century architecture. The most beautiful chapel, again mid-century design. A wonderful resource for helping to find lost loved ones from overseas wars. Beautiful grounds and landscaping. Incredible views of Diamonhead and downtown Honolulu.

A cemetery in the to of a volcano. A tranquil drive through park. Not much more to say. If you have absolutely nothing else to do that day ..... maybe a filler

The Cemetery is quite a sight to see. Our tour bus drove us through it slowly and pointed out some notable plots. It is a beautiful and quiet final resting place.

There are numerous flower shops that are right down the road in Chinatown that has beautiful flower arrangements. Safeway is also down the street at the corner of King and Pali. Nothing is sold on site.
