The statue is large as life, and very impressive. Good luck trying to get your photo there as the asian people take up all the time with their photos

we were walking along and noticed a crowd forming across the street, it was in front of Duke. Many had placed flower leis around his outstretched arms and then the sun began to set behind him out over the ocean!

The father of surfing in Australia and a superb athlete who was certainly larger than life. I like the way he gets fresh flowers draped on his statue every day honoring his contribution and spreading the Aloha spirit.

I am sure that everyone that visits the beach at Waikiki has photographed "The Duke" statue. It is an icon of Hawaii and well worth the look. The statue is adorned with flower leis on each occasion that I have seen it. Best photographed in...More

you can't go to Hawaii without learning about the Duke. If you're lucky enough to stay at the Outrigger on Waikiki you'll learn more by going to the infamous Duke's restaurant.

The Duke is famous in Hawaii, but he also started surfing as a sport in Sydney Australia. This is a very popular statue, unmissable on Waikiki beach, Honolulu. Easy to get to, just for the look.

Hard to underestimate the impact of Duke on the sport, lifestyle, even religion of surfing. The statue is impressive but use it to spur some reading on the impressive life of this great individual.
