Walking along the canal provides you with a different route through Waikiki. It is along a busy road still but the view over to the golf course and up to the mountains just gives you a different perspective. Not as busy as the beach walk and no shops to distract you!!

We are staying in a unit right beside the Canal while holidaying here in Honolulu so we have looked out at it every day and enjoyed seeing the rowers work out and all the joggers and walkers going by . We have walked along it to the harbour where it enters the ocean, a nice walk. Plenty of fish to... More

Worth having a look at. Lovely walks down along the Canal and I loved watching the row boats. It's just a really nice spot to wander along during the day.

The Ala Wai Canal is man-made and there are plenty of places to walk, hike, ride or skateboard. There are rental kayaks available as well, and it is a calm place to be on the water. A lot of people do fish in the canal and some of the marine life found are sea horses, a variety of tilapia, mantis... More

A short walk from Kalakaua Avenue is an interesting drainage canal built in the former Waikiki swamp reclaimed land. They have made the length of the canal a beautiful park, albeit a narrow strip of a coconut tree lined park. Lots of interesting wildlife. You can see the endemic Koloa Hawaiian duck which is in the Mallard duck family –... More

Walked along the Ala Wai in January 2011 on the way home from Leonard's bakery on Kapahulu. Many fish swimming near the side walk. Also, rowing centre is located on the other side of the canal beside the municipal golf course. Palm trees on both sides of the road. Nice view of the mountains in the distance with homes and... The canal cuts right thru the heart of Waikiki and ends up by the Ala Wai Yacht Harbour. It's a great place to walk, jog or run on a side walk right along the canal. Searched in vane for any place to rent a canoe but jogging was very good. Especially as the beach is too crowded and even the... More

Went to go see the Outriggers, but were to late, but was pretty walking by the water and seeing all the fish in the water, very clear. Nice paved pathway for walking or running.

We walked along the canal from our hotel. It was good to see the locals out on the water in the canoes. A bit of relaxing open space in the busy City.

The old Ala Wai Canal! Allot has changed since 1977 in Waikiki! the old Ala Wai Canal used to be so polluted with rubbish and it reeked of raw sewage. Now it is all cleaned up and actually looks very picturesque. We rented a Condo in the Waikiki Beach Condominiums at the corner of 444 Nahua and Ala Wai Blvd.... More
