Eric took us out on a boat tour which was great! We didn’t have a boat but wanted to get out on the water at Voyageurs. He was friendly and punctual and knowledgeable. He also helped us book a canoe for the next day while we were on the boat with him. He didn’t charge us the delivery fee to get the canoe to Rainy Lake visitor center since there were already canoes there! Highly recommend getting out on the water with the help of this outfitter.

Very accommodating considering the difficult circumstances due to historic flooding in the area. We were allowed to reduce our reservation from 4 days to 1 day since our camp site was closed due to the flooding. The canoe was dropped close to the water for us at Rainy Lake (for a fee). Equipment was all there and in good condition.

Enjoyed a four hour tour with Eric; the boat held six people and was very comfortable. Cold drinks were available. Eric was very personable and knowledgeable and took us out to an old fish camp where we could use the rest room and walk around a bit. We did see a few eagles. For myself, I think two hours would be enough but my husband really enjoyed the extra time soaking in the serenity of the lake.

I reserved a canoe months before our trip, and this was our first time visiting this park and state. When we arrived to the visitor’s center, we noticed a ten person canoe at the launchpad and we were confused. So I called the number provided in our confirmation and stated that we were confused because we didn’t see a two person canoe and only saw a ten person canoe, and asked if we could get a call back. Two hours later, we did not hear back so I again called them and said we were confused about where exactly to pick up the canoe. We even asked the park rangers inside of the visitor’s center and they too were confused. They said to check the docking area. Finally, we get a call back and it was a frustrated voice saying that the canoes are behind the restroom where “they always are”. I informed him that It would of been helpful to receive a guide of some sort to help locate the canoe and to that he replied, “it’s all in your confirmation email”. I’m attaching said email to show that there is absolutely no information about where to pick up the canoe apart from “Rainy Visitor Center”. We ended up leaving because we went to look behind the bathrooms at the center and saw nothing but a trail head. We decided to forfeit the ninety dollars it cost to reserve this canoe rather than call him back and deal with his condescending tone. I do not recommend this rental service and regret booking in advance, since our hotel room had plenty of canoe rental options when we arrived and it was really unnecessary to book one in advance.

This is a mixed review because we loved our 2 hour tour around Rainy Lake with Captain Tim. He is great, knowledgeable and loves what he does. We cannot say enough good things about Tim.

But the reason we did the 2 hour tour was because the night before the 6 hour tour to Kettle Falls was cancelled due to expected windy/rough conditions. We understood and were offered the 2 hour tour and were told we would be refunded the difference. Sounded good and the tour was great. But 3 weeks after the tour, I had to inquire about the refund. Though very quickly I received an email stating I was getting a $300 refund. However, the difference between the 6 hour tour and the 2 hour tour was almost $415 for the 3 of us. They are already way more expensive than the national park tours, but they are more private and run on days the park doesn't. So we were good paying more, but we wound up paying $495 for a 2 hour tour instead of $381.86. So, I followed up requesting the full refund amount, but no reply. They make you pay way in advance, don't offer full refunds more than few months out and there's no discount for children. And the crazy thing is we found a 4 hour evening tour to Kettle Falls with another guide service the same day and only paid $375. I'm glad we did the Rainy Lake tour with Tim, but there are other options.

Barney was absolutely excellent in helping my recent vacation go as smoothly as possible. He double checked that the boat I had rented for the campsite was appropriate. When he discovered it wasn't, he managed to help me secure a new site despite how busy it has been up there.
We were also picked up from and returned to the airport; brought to a grocery store to make sure we had fresh food for the weekend; given points of interest to see while there and some engaging stories about the history of the area.
The most impressive part was at the end though when we were asked for honest feedback about the trip so that if any improvements needed to made, they would know immediately.

If you plan on going up to Voyageurs National Park, this is the place to contact to make it happen smoothly.

The Two-Hour Grand Boat Tour is worth every penny. Highly personalized with only 6 people per boat plus the local captain who was incredibly knowledgeable. In addition to sharing fascinating history of the area, we also got to see loons (a first for us), ducks, beavers and an eagle. Unfortunately the bears were elsewhere that day! LOL But still enjoyed it all tremendously, could not have asked for more from a beautiful couple of hours in the wild. Great, personable guides who really know their stuff. Very pleased and highly recommended.

We took the half day boat tour, since we only had one day to enjoy Voyageurs National Park. The ride was fun and educational. It was a beautiful day, and we were part of a group of just six plus Eric the guide. Eric was very welcoming and funny, and he gave us so much information about the history, geology, and flora & fauna of the park. We stopped on 3 different islands, each with its own interesting highlights. We were all interested in birds, so he us to see a bald eagle nest & fledgling and got us close to a mother & young loons. There were drinks & some snacks, and then Eric recommended a great place for a hike (at Ash River Visitor Ctr) and then dinner (Thunderbird Lodge). We had an amazing day and would highly recommend this service!

We arrived at the location where we were supposed to pick up our canoes and one of them had a gash in the side and was unusable. After finally getting a hold of them after an hour of waiting they told us they couldn’t replace it and we’d need to take a kayak. However this was problematic since we were camping and had to overfill the one canoe we had to carry our camping stuff down the river. They said they would reimburse me on the leaky canoe but still have not done that. There were also another group of people behind us who rented a canoe but did not have one available. Since no one checks out the stuff anyone can just take whatever they want and it is impossible to know if what you ordered will still be there when you arrive.

Booked a water taxi to our frontcountry campsite and rented a canoe. Eric was helpful, punctual, friendly, and answered my questions about staying at the park in general. Plenty of space in his boat for all our gear and water and firewood (we don’t have a lightweight/backpacking setup since we usually camp with our car). I would book through them again for my next visit, and perhaps rent a motorized boat or a tour so I can see more of the park even when I’m sore from canoeing.
