Don't race through

Stop a lot. Walk out in the woods a bit... find a nice spot for a picnic and enjoy being away from the cars and crowds.

In addition to many spectacular things we saw during our visits to different geyser basins, trails, waterfalls, canyons, etc. at Yellowstone National Park, views along the Grand Loop were just as precious and incomparable. Different times (June vs. August) brought different beauties. There were majestic sheets of snow along the roads, trails, and on the mountains early June. And they... More

A figure "8" road inside Yellowstone- main thoroughfare within Yellowstone Natl. Park. A portion of the road was closed for maintenance, but didn't at all interfere with what we wanted to see. Plan on at least a couple days, better 3-4 in the park to travel this road and make the many stops along the way to experience Yellowstone to... More

This was a fantastic experience. We saw at least 100 bison with a herd that walk down the road past us. We saw elk and moose from afar and dozens of mountains with beautiful landscape. Luckily we went in the off season so little to no traffic. I've heard it can become very backed up in the high season might... More

I was driving west and for various reasons changed plans and drove the loop through Yellowstone and made a few stops. On my way into the park from Cody, WY within one hour I had sunshine at 60 degrees, rain, sleet, and snow. It was wicked (in the cool way). The scenery is fabulous and I did see many people... More

The Grand Loop Road takes you to multiple locations throughout YNP. Much of the driving is done on twisty and turny roads, yet some, are straight ahead and flat. Just be careful on the turns and don't cut corners or speed much more than the registered limit.

This is not a destination, it is PART of the journey. This road is the connector to pretty much everything in Yellowstone. We have been here three times, and come in from different angles and always end up on this loop for a while. The views are stunning, the wildlife fleeting and unpredictable, and the plants wonderful. This should be... More

We were in Yellowstone for a week and traveled this road, every part of it. Plan ahead what you want to see and you will be traveling this road. I hear it can get very busy in summer so plan to take your time. It is all quite beautiful!

The Elks live there freely and maybe because it is their home, they are not afraid of people. That gave us a great opportunity to see their activities.

We loved this part of our journey to Yellowstone - a slow drive around the grand loop and we saw tons of wildlife.
