We came in to Yosemite from the East side and we started our journey with Tioga Pass. At first it was quite hard on our car because we were only going higher and higher, but even then the mountain view was amazing. After getting to more flat surface we started passing lakes, nice viewpoints, fields, forests and mountains. You can... More

My wife and I drove through Tioga Pass when heading to Yosemite from Reno. The drive was beautiful. The mountains were huge. It was cold the morning we drove through. Only 17 deg F. It didn't bother us at all. A great ride through some beautiful scenery. There are plenty of place to stop and check out the scenery.

This road is one of the most scenic roads in California, and the US for that matter. The road goes over the highest pass in California, and passes stark, glaciated granite, glacial canyons, glacial tarns, glacial lakes, so it is highly likely you will see some glacial remnants here. Tuolumne Meadows is a beautiful high alpine meadow that has great... More

We drove out of Yosemite towards Mono Lake through this pass. We had no idea what what was ahead but all I can say is that it is the most spectacular drive I have ever done with constantly changing scenery, spectacular views and steep climbs and descents the whole way. Worth it as an experience in itself but make sure... More

We did this in Mid Nov. Thankfully our visit coincided with a weak of warm weather and perfect sunshine, so the Pass was open. We started off in Yosemite and drove all the way to other end (Mono Lake) and back again immediately. Took us 2.5 hrs on the way to get to to other side...and that's by hurrying up... More

We were driving over the mountains in late October, when it started to rain and high in the mountain it turned into snow. The drive was very interesting. We have never been in so high altitude before. The nature was very nice. We met ranger cars and cars with snow plows and later on got to know that we were... More

The pass was open so I took the drive for the 1st time and glad I did. You drive to about 9,700 ft and the views are spectacular. Many pullouts, you also see the backside of Half Dome at one point. I started my journey from Lee Vining, it took about 1.5 hours and ended up close to Yosemite National... More

If you are not going in the summer the road may be closed. Call 209 372 0200 for information on Tioga Pass. We went in late October. The first day we tried to do the drive the road was closed because of snow. The 2nd day it didn't open until noon because they were clearing rocks off the road. The... More

The drive through tioga pass was one of the best that I've done in my life. The road was well maintained and the scenery was drop dead gorgeous. Make sure to check the road status before making the drive as it usually closes in winter. Make sure to keep to the limit as there are always rangers patrolling the roads.
