- SteveK28762Worcestershire, United Kingdom95 contributionsThe iconic view of Yosemite.Driving through Yosemite is a pleasure all the time, with a new sight tasking your breath away at every turn. And then you emerge from the tunnel to see the one view that is more stunning than any other... El Capitan and Half Dome across the entire valley. Will never get tired of seeing it.Visited September 2022Written January 10, 2023
- Sarah OMexico, Missouri65 contributionsOne of my favorite parts of YosemiteTunnel View is one of the best views of the valley and it is fairly easy to get to because you just pull off the road into the parking lot. We came up to Yosemite via highway 41. One you get in the park, it takes 45 minutes to get to tunnel view. Coming through the tunnel and immediately seeing the valley is amazing. There is also a little turnout before the tunnel that makes for good pictures as well. A couple things to note: there are no facilities at tunnel view. The parking lot probably gets pretty full during the high season. The pictures are really great on a sunny day!Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten April 9, 2023
- 2rollonCalifornia522 contributionsWonderful Spring dayI’ve been to many NP but Yosemite is my favorite. Had friends from Germany visiting so planed a short trip up to park to show all its wonders off. The water run off this year is epic. Flowers were in bloom and nice comfortable weather. Our guest truly loved their day in the park.Visited May 2023Travelled with friendsWritten May 27, 2023
- Beth43323Minneapolis, Minnesota104 contributionsFabulous view coming in from the south! This was our first joyous view when driving up from the south (hwy 41) also called Wawona Road. People stop for 5-10 minutes for the fabulous view and background for photos so be patient and parking will open up. The waterfall was rushing on our visit May 16, 2023. Much of the park (Tioga Rd) was still closed due to the heavy winter snow, which may not open until late July-August this year! Wonderful view but must drive by some fire damaged forest areas first before the tunnel. The entry from the west that is still open (140?) is overall more scenic, following along the Marias River.Visited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten May 31, 2023
- TravelerCentralFLAClermont, Florida1,282 contributionsA Magnificent View of Yosemite ValleyAs we drove toward Yosemite Valley we came out of the Tunnel and planned to stop at the parking lot to see the view. It gets very busy and it can take a few minutes to find parking. It only took us 3 or 4 minutes because we happened to find someone pulling out. However, it usually takes longer and requires some patience. The view of Yosemite Valley is spectacular and it provides a panorama of Half Dome and El Capitan and the valley. We were able to get some terrific pictures. This is a must stop location on the way into the Valley.Visited May 2023Written June 3, 2023
- CDPGrapevine, Texas53 contributionsGorgeous view!Have your camera ready for when you exit the tunnel and get your first view of Yosemite Valley. It’s stunning! We arrived at 8:45am and had no trouble finding a parking space. Plenty of folks willing to take photos of each other. Don’t forget the virtual geocache👻Visited June 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten June 19, 2023
- nzwestieHamilton & Waikato Region, New Zealand457 contributionsPark, look, admire and move on for moreArrived early in morning. Went two days and the same experience was had for both days. Car parks were coming free all the time, just a few minutes wait if there was one. View is great. Not much to do other than take a look, take some pics and that is all. Drove through the tunnel one day to see how it was. That was fun. Then off to enjoy the parkVisited May 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten July 13, 2023

We stopped here three times during our 5 day trip to Yosemite. The best one was arriving at 5 am and watch the sun rise. When we got there we were treated to a clear star filled night sky that later turned to many different colors as the sun rose. Amazing experience.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 13, 2023
- KentwoolgarBrighton, United Kingdom123 contributionsMother Nature at her best.Read on here that sunrise is the best time to visit. I guess must be contingent on weather conditions. Got there an hour before sunrise until and 1 1/2 hours after and was honestly underwhelmed. I guess time of year and sun position must have an influence also. Went up at sunset and was blown away. The colour change on El Capitan, mesmerising. The dominance of Half Dome, looming in the background. I could have soaked that view in for hours. Get there early, limited parking and serious photographers dominating the area with their tripods.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 9, 2023

Try not to miss the parking lot if your going in or out of the tunnel. Parking is scarce but people don’t stay long. Go for different angles along the wall for the best pictures but take a moment with out your camera to take it all in. It is amazing and the pictures will never do it justice.

Its a classic view. Don't expect to be alone.
Afternoon light is better to view this than morning light looking into the sun.
Pictures speak for themselves - parking is fine as folks park up, take a few photos and move on, but there are walks you can do from here (e.g. Artist Point).

Simply stunning view, after seeing so many photos I wasn’t sure if they were over edited or faked a little, but the view was even better than expected, it really is incredible and totally worth the drive, even the drive is so beautiful.

We have decided to rent bikes inside the park on June 10 since the shuttles aren’t running. Which bike path is the best to see most views and best path to park the bikes and hike a bit? 3 adults with a 16 and a 10 year old. It’s a bit overwhelming without shuttles to know where to park and walk.

You cannot ride bikes to Tunnel View.
There is only one bike path. Check the NPS website for Yosemite Biking. Or ask on the Yosemite forum for advice about your plans. We have been helping visitors plan their pandemic-safe visit over on the forum.
I am wondering if I can get to Tunnel view without a day use entry reservation ticket? Hoping to still be able to see some of the park even if I can't get a reservation

No. To see any of the Park you actually need to go into the Park. Tunnel View is just above Yosemite Valley and several miles inside the National Park boundary.
You can make a reservation for the fee YARTS bus to travel into the Park without a Day Use Entry permit. But it does not go up to Tunnel View. The bus just goes to Yosemite Valley.
I’m visiting Yosemite on Sunday June 29, I plan on arriving around 8/8:30am...is traffic backed up throughout the park at the end of June or is it worse in July/August?

If you're traveling south through Yosemite, is there a way to see the Tunnel View? It's been so long since I last visited I can't remember the drive at all.

You will have to stop at the viewing area and look 'back" to the north. Worth a stop every time.

We are planing on traveling with a 4 years old and a 1.5 years old (with a carrier) , what trails in Yosemite are Suitable for little kids ?

Download the map and brochure, I recall 4-5 easy trails. I don’t have it handy, but I went on 4 trails of easy flat walking to moderate uphill elevations either with a lot of steps or decent gravel paths. There are also some paved bike paths and the park has a shuttle bus to get you around. You can also drive to some vistas and trailheads. But we used the shuttle. There is also a 2 hour tour by a ranger that’s interesting but may be too boring for youngsters.

Curious to know if anyone has been in the last week (8/8/18) and what impact the smoke has had on visibility?

How good is Yosemite to visit during first week of Feb? And are there any tire-chain requirements to drive through the national park?
g-cardozo
Porto Alegre, RS1,676 contributions
I don’t know how it is to visit in February, but if there is snow you must have tire-chain or a 4x4 vehicle with snow tires.
Chains can be bought and placed at the entrance of the park. We payed 106 dollars for chain and to put it because I had no clue how to do it but it is easy if you learn even in YouTube.

How bad was the smoke from the nearby fires? It's looks like there's considerable haze in your picture. I'm planning a visit in a couple weeks and I'm getting concerned.

Sorry. I am no expert on US weather.
I do know that access to the park overall can be limited by weather.
I suggest you consult reports of conditions at the time.
