Worth the steep staircase. Possibly the best cave I have seen to date. The coloured lights feel a bit tacky, but at the same time make for some interesting visuals, as the light reflects off the tiny mineral deposits in the stone. Take some bathers - the water looked beautiful where the local kids were swimming.

You need to climb 328 steps to reach the entrance to the cave. Once there enjoy the view. The cave is very large with a lit pathway inside. I thought it was great. My friend has been to many caves so she was less impressed. After we came down we went over to see the stream that comes out of the cave. There were kids swimming in it. It looked refreshing as we were very hot.

We got scammed so much at this place which left a really bad taste of our experience. You have to get a boat over to the caves which was really expensive for a 30 second trip on a dodgy tiny boat and then a guy followed us to the caves and then acted as our guide even though he spoke barely any English. There really should be some sort of health and safety as the big cave has slippery and jagged surfaces, low rocks above that you can barely see until you almost hit your head and we had to leave our shoes behind so we could walk up to our waists in water in some parts. We paid an entrance fee and were expecting our 'guide' to ask for a small tip but when we got out of the cave, away from the entrance hut and were still 1km from civilization in the middle of a rice paddy he demanded 100,000 kip from each of us!!! We were astounded, that is so much money for what it was. We gave him all we had on us (160,000 between 4) and he got really angry. We walked back to the boat but halfway there we noticed he was following us with two other men through this rice paddy which was really scary, we ran as soon as we turned a corner and got to the boat before they could catch us up and it was fine but seriously be wary of this kind of thing here. We got scammed many times in Laos but this was by far the worst time. There were hardly any other tourists here also which made it more lonely and worrying - we were completely alone with the guide in the caves. I'd stay away from this cave trip to be honest, the one at the blue lagoon was much nicer and safer.

This cave is very easily accessible from a Vang Vieng Main Street with about a 20 mins walk. It costs 20,000 kip to get to the cave (5,000 to get across the bridge and then a short walk where you pay a further 15,000 to enter the cave itself). You have to climb quite steep stairs to get to the entrance but its all part of the experience. Inside the cave there are lamps and coloured lights dotted about so that you can see which in my opinion ruins the authenticity of the cave but I guess they need to ensure that it is safe and visitors can see. It doesn’t take too long to walk around and there is a viewpoint with a good view over Vang Vieng at one end. Overall it is a cool cave to visit for a 30 mins trip and you get the added bonus of the bridge too.

My girlfriend and I rented bikes from town and made our own way here. We wanted to do the 4 caves loop. When u pay 10,000kip to get into the elephant cave a guy shows you the way. This particular guy then follows us and takes to all the other caves which we paid for. Good caves and very deep. This man who can not speak English eventually starts to lead us back after doing all 4 caves and stopps in the middle of nowhere and uses his single best English phrase yet, money for guide. I expected this as had read about it happening to others, luckily in the toilet I moved all my money except for 30,000KIP out of my wallet. I refused and he demanded 100,000kip each. When I told him I only had 30,000kip (OPEN WALLET) he then began to use a big English word, millions, which I was impressed with. After a few minutes he accepted that I had no more money in my "empty" wallet and let us go. My advice if u go without an organised trip is to make clear at the start no money for guide. Hope this helps.

To get into the cave you have to pay twice. First to cross the bridge (?!), next to enter the cave area. Note that "overseas guests" pay a lot more...
Then you need to climb many, many steps to get to the entrance. Once inside, it is nice, but not the wildest cave you will ever see.
You will need to be in good shape to do this.

Beautiful setting along the riverside and steep set of steps deliver you to the cave entrance. Once inside, the walkways are all concrete, with lighting along the way. Ok to view but not the most beautiful or exciting cave in the area.

We walked from town, it took about 30mins. Very easy walk there. It costs 2000 to get through the gate and an additional 15000 to go to the caves. If you just want to go for a swim (a good alternative to blue lagoons if you purely want a swim) you dont need to pay more than 2000. The caves are great, especially if you are a bit claustrophobic as you can walk through the paved areas. A few stairs up to the caves but it's so nice and cool inside them. Definitely worth it
