We were 3 days in a beautiful resort but we absolutely wanted to discover this "city mainly known for the beach". We asked the hotel reception to ask for a TukTuk to go in the temple. They call a guy who was really the best person we have met in Sri Lanka ! He explained us all the details on... More

We picked up a tuk tuk at the station and the driver acted as our guide at the temple. He explained a lot about the statues and the paintings. It is a very impressive Buddha and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit

The older temple is very nice to visit - almost no tourists - locals bring fruits and other things to the temple. No entrance fee - would recommend to give a donation for keeping the temple intact. Please remove the shoe's when entering the temple and do not use very short dresses or visible shoulder in respect of their culture.... More

This is not a 'tourist' temple which receives hundreds of foreign visitors a day. Instead it offers an authentic experience and an opportunity to see the local people worship. It's free but we made a donation because the temple is so beautiful and we found it so interesting. One tip would be to wear socks as the ground gets boiling... More

Our tour guide recommended this temple. We've been astonished to see the big statue of Buddha. We've took some pictures with Buddah(tip: never take selfies with Buddha. it's very disrespectful). Afterwards, we've entered the main temple were people offered baskets with fruits and flower. For 200 Rs, the priest there said a blessing for me and my girlfriend. The best... More

We stopped off here with a local guide. This is very much a currently used temple. We visited here earlier today it was bustling with locals attending to pray at both the Hindu and Buddhist temples. You need to remove your shoes here but there is no hassling from people asking for tips or for looking after shoes etc so... More
