Terrain changes a bit with greenery and snow-capped mountains come into view. This park is in the shadow of Hvannadalshnjukur, which is the highest peak in Iceland(6950 feet).Beautiful!!

We hiked down the glacier with our 11 and 12 year old kids. Easy hike for all of us. The glacier was beautiful! And the visitors center had bathrooms and a free water spigot with cold refreshing water.

We went for a hike in the park and it was amazing! We hiked the 8km route and went up a mountain where we had a spectacular view.

It is a pleasant walk to the glacier and interesting when you get there. It is a little over a kilomenter but worth it. The place gets busy and parks are limited so best to go early and pick a nice day.

Take the time to hike to the scenic overlook of the glacier. It's a pleasant uphill hike with beautiful views and you can perch yourself on rocks at the edge of the cliff to get stunning pictures of the glacier, the canyon and the glacier...More

Everything here is very picturesque when the weather is right. Be prepared with water/wind prove attire even for the short walks. You will survive in sneakers but I would recommend water proof shoes.

We've been here a few times and always had good information and service. This time we got the most unhelpful lump I've ever come across! She was miserable and offered no information or even useful responses to questions. Also, the visitors centre has scaled down...More

I was fascintaed with the glacier. Only a very short drive off of the Iceland outer ring road. You can see this glacier from the road for a long way, but getting up close and personal is much more exciting. I can never get enough...More

Beautiful and awe-inspiring glacier. Easy and pretty walk to the glacier with lots of birds flitting around. We virtually had the place to ourselves while we were there! Definitely recommend this to all.

Lots of trails for different types of hikers and travelers. You can go hike on the glacier, or just walk casually to the foot of one of them.

The glacier hike we did was one of our top experiences in Iceland. I wouldn't have missed it for anything. The hike was really fun, interesting and even a bit challenging. And you really get to see climate change as the... More

I agree with the other responder. Also, I'm not sure how you're getting to Hofn if you're not driving yourself, but I assume some kind of tour bus. Perhaps you could ask that same operator.

It's a short walk from the parking area. If you want to climb the glacier go with a pro. Weather is a factor of course. I feel it's best observed from the ground.
