A wild and wacky museum, showing the extreme of collecting. The collection however is immense and unique. It contains toys, fire engines, cars, aircraft and more. The children were amazed at the toys from the past. A good few hours can be spent reliving your own past and educating following generations, and all finished with some local beer, as the... More

A wonderful toy shop. I have never seen so many great toys in the same place in Australian and NZ. The museum itself is amazing, full of fun, great for adults and kids. I absolutely recommend.

Curious and AMAZING when you consider that one person collected ALL these things. Mr Gerald Rhodes was an amazingly unique individual. He started life as an apprentice mechanic I think, but became an insurance adviser, collector and property developer who amassed this amazing and eclectic assortment of old objects; from Fire engines and airplanes to model cars and toys including... A very large collection of almost everything you can think of. After the first building I had had enough, only to find out that there were3-4 more giant hangers to look at. Half of our family really enjoyed it, and the other half were a bit bored. The most fun was the giant pedal cars. If you are a car... More

This collection had everything from dolls, Star Wars collectibles, cars, motorcycles, fire engines, planes and vacuum cleaners along with just about anything else you can think of. The 4 warehouses are literally crammed with this kind of stuff with every nook and cranny crammed with even more. You could spend a year in there and not take in everything. It's... More

If you have an interest in any of the topics on display, this museum will worth a stop. Possibly the best is the toy collection. The cars, tractors and other memorabilia are crammed together and just 'as is' with no attempt at restoration. Personally we preferred the next door warbirds collection which has well chosen and beautifully restored examples, but... More

An amazing collection. Diverse and surreal at times but an absolute must see! How can one man collect so much?!? Loved it!

A great way to while away an afternoon but let down by a lack of space. A huge, varied and very interesting collection but with limited space it is all crammed in bumper to bumper and very difficult to view.

My husband and I visited this museum on our way from Wanaka to Cromwell. It was a bit of a rainy day so it was good to spend some time looking at the amazing collections in this museum. The toy collection was humongous with the biggest display of Star Wars collectables and Barbie dolls that I have seen. There are... More
