Interesting place to take adults down memory lane with toys

Our two young ones enjoyed this for a while, of course they wanted to play with the toys ... Which, of course, generally you can't. But they liked seeing the old cars and fire... read more

We wanted to visit the Warbird's Museum, but it is now defunct. Most of their material is now at the excellent Wigram Air Museum. Instead we visited the Transport and Toy Museum. First the coffee shop wasn't open, the brewers next door were too busy, and once on the way, the outdoor walks between buildings was in the raw cold.... More

Rainy day so not a lot to do with my kids. We spent around 1.5 hours here. It was pretty inexpensive. I wish I knew more about cars, but they had a decent numbers of placards with info there to explain them. A ton of toys to look at, like walking down memory lane. Don't expect a ton, don't go... This museum is a must, it goes on and on toys, cars, fire engines, planes and lots more. Will bring back your childhood memories of toys etc. Everywhere you look there are more things. There are even boxes of stuff sitting in old cars waiting to go on display which is a shame.

You must take time to visit this museum if you are in the area. It has an amazing collections of so many things including toys, planes, dolls, cars, prats, spoons, tractors etc, etc, etc. I never knew there were so many Barbie dolls in so many costumes. There is plenty of parking and you should allow a lot of time... More

Incredible collection of toys, cars and planes amongst other things. Our 5 year old boy was in heaven. Not a lot of information about things but a collection of this size would be hard to manage. Will be recommending to friends.

One of the best museums we have ever been to, old toys, meccano kits and models, lego, lots of cars (not all American thank goodness). Could spend hours there without any problems.

Simply brilliant. You leave spell bound by how is it possible to collect so much antique and recent toys that bring back so many memories for a variety of generations. On top of this the collections of working fire trucks, planes, cars, military vehicles blows you away. The ticket allows you to come back the following day which we did... More

While on a road trip between Queenstown and Mount Cook, we decided to stop by the National Transport and Toy Museum in Wanaka. It's situated on a rather large compound with four hangars chock-full of old cars, planes and toys. So while this place has definitely a large *quantity* of things to look at the general state of the exhibits... More

Air fix and Meccano + much more. Could have stayed much longer but husband was not as interested as me. I'm not sure whether the 'higgle de piggle de' layout added to its charm. It worked for me. I was able to lose my husband and spend a good half hour browsing aircraft model kits of First and Second World... More
