A great collection with a lot of information! Learned a lot and were able to ask some questions. You also can (not must) buy some spices. They are for a good price and a fantastic gift

The cooking class at Ella spice garden was the best night of the Sri Lanka holiday! Highly recommend it!

When we visited ella we spontaneously decided to take part in a sri Lankan cooking class. Usually the families father gives the class, we were part of the son's debut who really did a great job! We prepared different kind of curries and furthermore learned a lot about sri lankan and Asian kitchen in general. In the end we were... More

This well hidden little gem had lessons in sri lankan cuisine complete with a little cookbook. You learn how to do garlic curry, potato curry, coconut sambol and dhal. And you get to eat the food! The host is really friendly and gives plenty of photo opportunities for the food snapping enthusiast. Be aware that lessons are limited to 8... More

We had an amazing time with the cooking class! The host (and his family) is incredibly nice and funny. It is really nice that they use their own kitchen which is quite traditional. The groups are small which is nice as well. We had a great time discovering the Sri Lankan kitchen and still make the dishes at home :)

First they don't tell you that you will only cook vegetarian. For a price of 2500 p.p that's a bit expensive (relative to the country of course) for no meat. Second, you just watch the cook do the cooking. I have been to a few of these cooking lessons and normally you get to do the food yourself with your... More

We looked around lots of places in Ella to do a cooking class - and although not the cheapest - Ella spice gardens seemed the broadest range of choice. Our teacher was knowledgeable and good fun too! We cooked a big range of curries and spent an evening with another English couple - it was good fun. Recipe book to... More

We popped in here after lunch and dodging a short sharp shower. It's a very convenient way of seeing and learning about lots of the spices we all know so well. It is all very low key and the owner is a really friendly guy. We did feel obliged to buy a few spices but they were very cheap and... More

I'd seriously recommend booking the cookery lesson, but go there and book in advance as its popular for good reason! Chandika is a great teacher, very patient, his English is excellent, cooking skills are on par with London chefs. He takes you through the steps slowly, and helps to cook some really great food, and gives you the recipes afterwards!... More
