Really unusual weathered rocks. A great explanation of how they were formed in one of the comments below. Please read the other comments. They made us want to go and visit and we did not regret it. Amazing views and possible walls too. Aldo on the way to the archeological site of Perperikon.

As their name reveals, these are rock formations in the shape of mushrooms. Due to their close proximity to the ancient Thracian city of Perperikon, the Stone Mushrooms can be visited in the same day as Perperikon.

Like the Petrified Wedding, the Petrified stone mushrooms are on the side of the road, just a random amazing act of nature.

The stone mushrooms are visible from the road but there is no advance signage. Once you find the stone mushrooms it is worth the visit and a walk around the site. It would be useful if there was an explanation of the process of formation of the mushrooms in multiple languages. Bulgaria has many natural points of interest. This is... More

Natural phenomenon Stone Mushrooms is located near the road between Haskovo and Kardzhali, about 1 km from the village of Beli Plast. Represent natural rock formations sculpted by the forces of nature in the form of giant mushrooms. They have formed due to volcanic activity underwater when it was the bottom of the sea. After the withdrawal of water rain,... More

The stone mushrooms were close to Perperikon but still a little hard to find because we couldn't see any signs. Aside from finding it though, it was a pleasant stop to take photos and explore a little. The site itself takes only a few minutes to look around but is perfect as a short rest stop.

Charcoal Raduil had four daughters - one of the other more beautiful. Lived in the fortress of Perperikon. One sunny morning, making off with their buckets and headed for the water outside the city walls. Suddenly, on the hill behind the river saw a great horde of invaders. Raced gone into the castle. Started hot, but uneven battle. People ran... More

Travelling throughout Bulgaria what a great spot to take some beautiful pictures and stretch your legs! From the rolling countryside to the open sky the mushroom rocks pop with delight! In the far off distance you can hear the sound of cattle bells and the soft breeze ... Something a meditation cd would play in a spa! Completely out of... More

All of the mushromms there (around 5) you can see in the pictures. But only a few minutes from Perperikon by car, so if you want to make a few pictures you should go there.
