Off the beaten path, at the foot of the village of Menebes. Very quiet and serene. Take some time to check out the exhibits which explain the Abbaye's long history. Then, walk around the grounds and take in the amazing view.

This place is no big deal in an area with so much history. But, it was close to the place we stayed, so it was an easy hike. It was first built in the 13th century and has nice views over the Luberon.

Yes, that’s what I felt. St Hilaire exudes a calm serenity in a beautiful environment - But without the coachload upon coachload of tourists. It is reached down an unassuming drive and is on the side of the valley. There is an honour box (2.50...More

I was there early April while biking around the area. Pretty grounds and chapel. You can also view the loving quarters.

Beautiful surroundings, you can walk through the abbey and go through to the old kitchen gardens then through to the stunning orchards. Lovely views of the hilly Luberon country side.

We were enjoying a driving tour through the Luberon countryside around Bonnieux, Lacoste, and Menerbes on a balmy autumn afternoon when we saw signs pointing the way to the somewhat isolated Abbaye Saint-Hilaire, with which we were previously unfamiliar. Access is down a narrow gravel...More

The private owners are investing signifcant amounts of meny into restoring this 500AD Abbey into a magnificent showpiece. Not a destination, but can be tacked on to a visit to Lacoste or neighbouring Ménerbes. Wonderful hikes nearby.

Wanted to visit this but not sure how to get there or whether it was open to the public--guidebooks gave conflicting opinions. We saw a sign for it and drove down the dirt road to it. Simple, stark Abbey. Very nice lady who explained some...More

This abbey is a pleasant walk from Menerbes. Walking up from below, one slowly takes in the gardens, a disused pool, and the building itself. Both times I have gone, I have been grateful to absorb the preternatural quiet of the chapel and the grounds....More
